Job Description:

Ambatovy Nickel Cobalt operations in Madagascar is currently searching for an experienced Operations Improvement Superintendent within the Utilities Department. In this role the successful person will be responsible to develop and deploy operational strategies in the field correctly and cost efficiently. The role interfaces with all Utilities Superintendents and provides a service capturing operations improvement, removing restrictions, engineering services management, capital plan coordination, MOC prioritisation and developing 2 / 5 year asset management plans. Reporting to the Utilities Manager.

The Role



  • Application of Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ). Standards, Policies & Procedures

  • Utilize Operational Excellence or Six Sigma tools to identify, analyze, improve and control problems

  • Daily production reporting on key process metrics are reviewed and deviations understood. Containment plans are created, implemented and risks mitigated accordingly

  • Initiate and implement asset improvement plans to increase Utilities capacity to improve PAL and REF performance

  • Coordinate Nalco site resources to suitably assess chemical dosing and water quality management

  • Lead the development of 2/5yr annual production plans, capital improvements and a live version of the Utilities risks and the respective risk mitigations plans

  • Review daily production performance and seek opportunities to reduce waste from venting, flaring, spillage or process upsets

  • Recognize and implement process efficiency gains to reduce unit costs

  • Manage costs and implement cost reduction and efficiency improvement projects


The Requirements



  • Tertiary qualification within the Technical, Chemical or Mechanical Field

  • Minimum 15 years' experience operations experience in a chemical, gas, power or minerals processing plant production environment

  • Strong background in Utilities' processes and with improvements in an integrated industrial facility

  • Prior experience in providing process support for the operation of a similar plant would be an asset

  • Operational and mechanical background with a focus on six sigma, optimization and continuous improvement

  • Experience in training and developing subordinates to assume positions of greater responsibility in the organization

  • Excellent knowledge of Best Maintenance practices

  • Advanced knowledge of PI data historian uses and applications

  • Experience with application of Statistical Process Control (SPC)

  • Computer literate: will need to be competent with corporate software, including Word, Excel, BAAN, MOC, Maintenance Planning/Scheduling & Execution Techniques etc., and specialized packages such as statistical software for data analysis

  • Strong familiarity with mechanical equipment, piping and maintenance best practice

  • Must have excellent communication skills which includes fluency in English which is essential. Fluency in French (oral and written) is highly advantageous.
