Freeport-McMoRan’s internship program is tailored to students and recent graduates with mining-related degrees.  Internships typically run mid-May thru mid-August as well as the fall and spring semesters.  Our intern program has been referred to as one of the top programs in the mining industry. By providing structure and access to top minds and technology in mining today, our internship will provide you the skills and experience to help prepare you for a successful career.
Under general supervision, performs project work that assists the GIS department.
  • May assist with and transpose complex data from hard copy records, maps, CAD drawings, county, state and federal land base maps and data bases into electronic GIS format
  • May assist with the creation of maps and exhibits for land and water applications
  • May assist with administration and support of GIS servers
  • Provides assistance and support for departmental projects and tasks as needed
  • Perform other duties as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • Full-time student currently enrolled at an accredited four-year university majoring in Computer Science, Geography or closely related field; OR
  • Recent college graduate having graduated within 12 months prior to internship start date with a degree in Computer Science, Geography or closely related field
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Possesses strong data analysis and problem solving skills
  • Highly accurate and detail oriented
  • Possesses strong oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrates initiative, organizational skills and ability to work well under pressure
  • Demonstrates ability to collaborate and work effectively in a team environment
