Job Description:

Ambatovy Joint Venture operation in Madagascar, is recruiting a well experienced Process Engineer to be responsible for providing process technical assistance to Ambatovy operations and ensures that company safety and environment policies are incorporated into any policies related with process and control changes.

The Role

The Process Engineer will work closely with other engineers of the technical services to identify, initiate, and implement process improvements that will contribute to the cost effectiveness, stability, process robustness and reliability of Plant operations.


  • Be aware, understand, communicate and comply with the Ambatovy Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ) Policies and associated documentation.

  • Provide data analysis, design process control strategies, control limitations, update of cause-to-effect mapping for interlocks, design calculations, update PFDs and P&IDs, flow sheets with mass & heat balances, economic evaluations and justification of the projects, review of operation procedures.

  • Provide process designing, general engineering services, design calculations, review of operational procedures, interlock sheets and process control sheets.

  • Develop and maintain quality control for capital and non-capital projects.

  • Develop and implement chemical engineering procedures consistent with Ambatovy Engineering practices.

  • Prepare technical and economic assessments.

  • Provide technical reports on issues related with extractive metallurgy and metallurgy outcomes.

  • Perform heat and mass balances with the designing software as METSIM for various process of the Plant.

  • Perform design calculations for pumping systems, agitators, piping, energy savings, instrumentation.

  • Provide effective technical support to exploitation units.

  • Daily monitor plant operations to ensure the process parameters are within the acceptable limits and the quantity of the product is maintained.

  • Follow up tendencies and KPIs, maintain optimization with the concerned sectors.

  • Ensure that all activities in the Projects group comply with and support ISO 9001 certification and potentially ISO 14001 requirements mainly within the Refinery.

The Requirements

  • Relevant Qualification in Chemistry, Chemistry Engineering or Metallurgical Engineering (extractive metallurgy).

  • Knowledge of hydrometallurgical refinery, project management, implementation and budgeting.

  • Proficient with computer applications including Microsoft products and specialized packages.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a focus on Functional Cultural awareness.

  • Language skills: English is essential. French is highly advantageous.

  • Minimum of 5 years-experience in Metallurgy area in an industrial area.

  • Knowledge of hydro-metallurgical or pyro-metallurgical operations.

  • Analytical skills in process follow-up, measuring, data analysis and control strategies.
