This position is located at the Henderson Mine, which is in an underground mine plant setting at an elevation of 10,800 feet above sea level. This may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles.
Under general supervision plans, oversees and/or performs detailed field surveys in support of site underground and surface operations.
  • Plans, organizes and evaluates surveying at assigned site
  • Performs complex site surveys and oversees the activities of field survey crews in performing site surveys
  • Maintains highly detailed and accurate notes, records and sketches to describe and certify work performed
  • Updates conventional and electronic files using AutoCAD, MineSight 3D, and Land Development Software (Carlson Survey and Civil)
  • Maintains highly accurate underground control network
  • Researches previous survey evidence, maps, physical evidence and other records
  • Determines methods and procedures for conducting assigned surveys
  • Reviews and recommends new or enhanced surveying equipment or protocols
  • Prepares and presents findings to engineering and operational personnel
  • Performs reconciled mine development monthly advance reports for operational groups
  • Performs and manages contract layout and design requirements
  • Performs basic and intermediate designs for underground operations
  • Performs engineering design drawing checks and redlines
  • Performs other duties as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • Advanced training or education in surveying, mapping or a related field
  • Three (3) years of surveying experience relevant to assignment, both surface and underground
  • Knowledge of the principles and methods used in complex land and underground surveys, including GPS surveys and 3-D scanning techniques
  • Skilled in the use of a variety of survey equipment, tools, and apparatus used in performing surface and underground surveys, e.g. total stations (Leica), data collectors and stakeout routines (TDS), cavity monitoring systems (CMS), Trimble Geomatics GPS
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Skilled in use of a variety of computer software including, but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, standard survey software packages, AutoCAD, MineSight 3D, Carlson Survey, Trimble Business Software
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of underground mining processes and requirements
  • Ability to resolve issues with the operations groups and contractors
