Job Description:

As a senior member of the Company management team, this role is responsible for leading the operations together with the COO, start up, ramping, planning and improvement of the production and mine development. This role also supports the COO and the rest of the Management Team to oversee the operations of the site. His direct reports are Plant Manager, Mine Manager and Logistic Manager.

Main Responsibilities

Safety, Health and Environment:

  • Ensure compliance with statutory / legislative and Corporate requirements

  • Integrate SHE initiatives into departmental planning, decision making, systems and processes

  • Promote awareness and establish appropriate departmental targets to prevent harm

  • Ensure all hazards and sources of loss are identified, evaluated, and controlled in accordance with the Company SHE Policies and the Safety Management Standards

  • Be accountable for safety, health and environment activities within your department

  • Conduct business of the Company in exemplary manner in terms of ethical, commercial, legislative and community expectations and requirements.

  • Develop a high level of safety and environmental awareness amongst your team

People and Organization:

  • Manage human resources strategically within your department to result in the Company having preferred employer status and being a high achieving organizational environment

  • Ensure departmental practices support effective employee relations

  • Ensure employees are trained and held accountable for roles

  • Align departmental and employee objectives to the Company Values and Behaviors

  • Promote and manage effective leadership, performance management, career development and succession planning of team personnel

  • Consistently apply workplace management procedures to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, agreed values and behaviors and the Company Code of Conduct

  • Appropriately prioritizing activity to continuously achieve targets


  • Plan, organize, manage and control the Plant Operations, Mine and Maintenance

  • Ensure company's safety policies and procedures are followed: Company's employees, contractors and visitors.

  • Ensure legal and regulatory compliance for company and government standards and regulations.

  • Maximize production and optimize costs

  • Plan and coordinate efficient use of company's human and material/physical resources.

  • Ensure start-up and sustained production goals are achieved.

  • Materials management including but not limited to cyanide and explosives.

  • Meets schedule and budget for pre-production development and production goals.

Position Requirements

As a successful candidate, it is essential that you possess the following skills, experience and competencies:

  • Minimum 15 years' experience in small to medium scale underground metal mining operations (3,000 tonnes per day and onwards)

  • Educational Background, Mining Engineer or Metallurgy Engineer Bachelor of Science degree.

  • Fluent in Spanish and English preferable

  • Experienced in mining methods such as LHOS (Longhole Mining), C&F (Cut and Fill) and Shrinkage stoping.

  • Experienced in milling operations; Crushing, Grinding, Gravity Concentration, Cyanide Leach, Counter-Current Decantation (CCD), Merrill Crowe and On-site refining to dore bars.

  • Proven track record of comparable job responsibilities in leadership roles.

  • Willing to relocate to Colombia


  • Demonstrated ability to contribute and work effectively in a group as a team leader

  • Strong strategic, problem solving, decision-making, and critical-thinking skills

  • Provides current, direct, complete and actionable positive and corrective feedback to others in a prompt and efficient manner

  • Leading and directing cross functional teams of intradepartmental participants involved

  • Multi-cultural adaptation and skills are essential, including having successfully managed operations within socially complex environments

  • Results driven achiever with exemplary planning and organization skills

  • Strong professional experience and competence (i.e. extensive knowledge of industry and cross-functional understanding)

  • Strong communication (both written and verbal) and leadership skills

  • Flexibility, adaptability, and open to alternatives

  • Ability to motivate teams and simultaneously manage multiple complex projects in a fast-paced production environment

  • Management approach in line with current sustainability practices (i.e., regulatory compliance)
