Job Description:

Ambatovy, a Sherritt International Nickel & Cobalt operation in Madagascar, is currently searching for an experienced Senior Mining Engineer, who plays a critical role in the long term, strategic and short term design and planning of safe and efficient mining operations and ensuring the optimal and sustainable extraction of reserves.

Globe 24-7 in partnership with Ambatovy is working together to source experienced and qualified talent for their existing world class lateritic nickel processing facilities and mining operation in Madagascar. The Role



  • Safety First: Be aware, understand, communicate and comply with the Ambatovy Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Policies and associated documentation.

  • Create and maintain medium and long term mine productions schedules and cost models including the preparation of annual production plans and budgets.

  • Short term planning and production activities by creating operations based solutions to execute and deliver the agreed mine plan.

  • Ensure that any changes, alterations, additions and decisions are communicated clearly and are understood by the appropriate stakeholders at the mine.

  • Develop and maintain functional relationship with operations, dispatch, maintenance, geology and processing sections.

  • Supervise, mentor and train Engineers within the department to support mining operations.

  • Coordinate the training of personnel to ensure their performance meets the required standards to achieve sustainable mine planning excellence.


The Requirements



  • Degree in Mining Enginneering or similar from a recognised Tertiary Education Institute

  • Further advanced qualifications in mining, mineral economics, management or other related area will be well regarded. Best practice mining standard in an open pit mine.

  • Minimum 10 years' post graduate industry experience in open pit operations. Experience with high rainfall tropical deposits would be highly advantageous.

  • Advanced knowledge and operational expertise in open pit mine design, scheduling and optimisation software particularly SURPAC, MineShed and Whittle.

  • Advanced knowledge of GPS based fleet management systems. WENCO is an added advantage.

  • Knowledge of Minign Fleet Operations and associated maintenance requirements.

  • Previous experience working in Remote and Developing Countries is preferred. Experience working in Francophone Developing Countries is highly advantageous.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a focus on Functional Cultural awareness.

  • Language skills: English is essential. French is highly advantageous.


The Rewards


The position offers a competitive remuneration package and is available on a rotational 7/3 week roster on a 24 month contract.
