Globe 24-7, in partnership with Kirkland Lake Gold is working together to source experienced and qualified talent for their Gold Mine in northern Ontario for the 5/5/4 scheduled shifts.

The Role

The Hoist Operator will report directly to the Millwright Supervisor and is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of all three (3) hoists, #1 Shaft, #2 Shaft, #3 Shaft. Embracing automation, you ensure that all daily checks are done in accord with the OHSA; which includes testing of the brakes, overwinds, underwinds, track limits and all other tests as required. You will be proficient in having excellent knowledge and dedication to safety, equipment operation and equipment.

The Responsibilities

  • Planning and organizing; apply discipline and structure to maintenance and repair activities, assets and resources

  • Maintain work standards; work consistently in accordance with the OHSA and Hoist Training Manual

  • Verify that all information is entered accurately and timely on a daily basis into the Hoist Operators Log Book

  • Flexibility, adjust daily schedule; prioritize as required to optimize operation efficiency

  • File all documents and maintain documentation filing system for inspection and audit

  • Ensure that applicable procedures and work standards for all tasks are understood, adhered to and complied with at all times (including training of others)

  • Read and maintain awareness with all recent entries in log books

  • Perform all daily checks on operating hoists, including brakes, overwinds/underwinds and track limits as required and record in the Hoist Operators Log Book

  • Conduct trial trips as required in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

  • To operate a hoist in an emergency situation.

  • To respond to audible and visual signals.

  • To safely operate on manual controls.

  • Operate the hoist under the direction of the authorized person giving signals

  • Assist maintenance and repairs in the field when required and safe to do so

  • Work closely with other crew members to create and maintain a synergy required to accomplish the shift lineup in the cycle

  • Ensure that any equipment deemed damaged or unsafe by virtue of a defect or a machine of which any protection system is inoperative, is not used, and communicated to the Shift Supervisor

  • Understand and apply Safe Work Practices

  • Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in the prescribed manner

  • Coordinate with the Operations Supervisor to optimize all scheduled maintenance activities to minimize impact on production

  • Other duties as assigned

  • These duties can be monotonous and repetitive. The workload can be cyclic with very active and inactive times. The operator is required to be vigilant at all times of day or night. This vigilance should not be impaired by therapy or other causes.

The Requirements

  • Mining Experience relevant to support operations - minimum Miner 4 for 2+ years

  • Deemed competent to operate the hoist(s)

  • Annual Hoist Medical in accordance with Section 238 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act

  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping in their workplace

  • Demonstrated well developed mature communication

  • Ability to train and instruct others

  • Capacity to manage competing priorities

  • Ability to organize and assemble logical sequence of events to be effective in role with regard to hoist operations

  • Ability to anticipate and follow directions

  • Must attend worksite Fit for Duty and safe for all scheduled shifts

  • Ability to work in a remote location. KL Gold's Canadian operations are located in Northern Ontario with most activity within 100 km of Kirkland Lake.
