Under general guidance from the Chief Engineer for Operational Improvement, leads, plans, organizes, manages, and evaluates designated Engineering and technical projects in support of all Freeport-McMoRan mining operations.  Particular focus will be on Mine Management Systems (Modular Mining Dispatch) and mine technology projects.  This is a global position requiring extensive travel and extended periods working at various mine sites.
  • Drive development and implementation of best practices for Mine Management Systems to improve site productivity and reduce site costs while also facilitating global reporting
  • Mentor and direct the work of local Dispatch Engineers to optimize the function of their Mine Management System
  • Serve as Project Manager to implement and support Operational Improvement projects
  • Work with the Technology Center to manage the implementation of applicable technological changes and improvements at appropriate Freeport-McMoRan sites and monitor the progress of changes/improvements
  • Evaluate and manage contracts with vendors for the provision of services and equipment
  • Perform other duties as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate Engineering discipline and five (5) years of related experience in Engineering or a related field, OR
  • Master’s degree in an appropriate Engineering discipline and three (3) years of related experience in Engineering or related field
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience working with Mine Management software
  • Proficient in the use of Mine Management Software
  • Robust understanding of all mining processes including operations, maintenance and administration
  • Proficient in planning, scheduling, execution and follow-up
  • Working knowledge of MS Office, Word and Excel, and other business systems
  • Able to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions
  • Knowledge of Project Management techniques and practices
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees and vendors
  • Ability to plan, schedule, prioritize, direct and manage a diverse number of operational areas, projects and activities
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Skill in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
  • Skill in managing effective communication throughout all levels of the organization, both verbal and written
  • Must be able to travel extensively throughout Freeport-McMoRan
