Ambatovy Nickel Cobalt operations in Madagascar is currently searching for a Senior Process Engineer - Utilities to provide process technical support for all Site Utilities (Steam/Condensate, Electricity, Nitrogen, Plant Air, Water, Natural Gas, H2S and Wastewater).

The Role

The position ensures that the individual utilities are operated in an environmentally sound and cost-effective manner while supporting all site utility requirements per plan to internal and external customers.

technical support to Operations, leads projects for continuous improvement in plant performance and mentor other engineers. These activities deliver sustainable gains in process safety, plant throughput and economic efficiency.

The Responsibilities

  • Provide with directly resources or coordinate other engineers in Process Technology, Operations and Maintenance groups to identify, initiate, and implement process improvements that will contribute to the safe operation, cost effectiveness, stability, process robustness and reliability of the Plant operations.

  • Supplying technical input as the Subject Matter Expert to support production and to provide early advice to stakeholders about technical risks.

  • Support maintenance and operations team members in troubleshooting and diagnostics.

  • Provide appropriate data analysis, control limits, process control strategy, updated cause and effect charts with interlocks, design calculations, updated PFDs and P&IDs, update mass & heat balances, justification of the process improvements and insure that all company and department safety and environment policies are adhered to and incorporated into any process changes

  • Ensure that safety and environmental procedures and standards are followed by plant personnel and maintain close collaboration with the HSE department to ensure all workers are trained in safety and environment matters.

  • Initiate and manage process optimization projects and ensure that they are implemented following Ambatovy standards.

  • Develop and implement Process Engineering procedures consistent with Ambatovy Engineering practices

  • Review and maintain up-to-date for the Operations plant the Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) with the Project Group

  • Participate in capital budgeting and management of the capital works program and assisting in budgetary preparations and assisting in controlling costs.

  • Collaborating with Laboratory and Plant laboratory for analysis and plant trials.

  • Facilitate training for Refinery process engineering personnel.

  • Be aware and comply with relevant HSEQ legal and other requirements.

The Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in applied sciences, process or chemical engineering

  • A minimum of 10 years' Technical experience in a similar industry

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English; fluency in French is a definite asset.

  • Strong leadership and relationship building skills to work with a diverse workforce across multiple disciplines

  • Knowledge and operation of managing a multi service organization and multi-client operation

  • Financially literate to prepare budgets, forecasts, and financial analysis

  • Knowledge of all safety aspects for mechanical and electrical facilities as well as industrial facilities

  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects at any one time

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • A diverse operational background with a strong knowledge on the operation of various types of equipment and processes

  • A strong understanding of Environment, Health and Safety systems and practices

  • Fluent in English and French is desirable

  • Familiarity with software data historian (PI)

  • Knowledge of technical drawings and documentation (P & IDs, PFDs, pipe specifications, etc.)

  • Knowledge and practice of project management

  • Computer literate: will need to be competent with corporate software, including Word, Project, Excel, BAAN

  • Knowledge and practice of Environmental and Safety Procedures and Risk Assessment Procedures
