This position is located at the Climax Mine site off of CO-91 between Silverthorne, CO and Leadville, CO. This is a rural, alpine area approximately two hours from the Denver metropolitan area. The mine is at an altitude of approximately 10,200 feet. In the winter, the average high temperature is 31 degrees and the average low is 3 degrees. In the summer, the average high temperature is 71 degrees and the average low is 38 degrees. The average snowfall in Lake/Chafee counties is in excess of 200 inches per year.
 
Facilitate processes in the Health & Safety Management System, including incident investigations and hazard assessments to ensure compliance with government laws and regulations, and company policies.
  • Conduct safety audits and inspect facilities within area of responsibility to ensure a safe working environment and compliance with regulatory laws
  • Coordinate between company managers, insurance administrators, physicians, and employees to investigate and process claims
  • Assist in Safety Training venues, including specialized safety training (e.g., confined space, LOTOTO) and Annual Refresher Training, as required
  • Conduct Health & Safety (H&S) orientations, visit work sites and distribute literature to implement and promote safety and/or environmental policies and procedures
  • Present Health & Safety related information and respond to questions or concerns from employees, managers, clients and the general public
  • Accompany MSHA/OSHA/State Mine Inspectors and document regulated field activities
  • May administer Workers Compensation program for the company, including interacting with workers compensation insurers, monitoring claims, developing and administering loss prevention and rehabilitation management/monitoring programs, maintain files, and provide necessary support in defense of claims
  • Handle additional Specialist projects as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED and four (4) years of Health & Safety experience, including two (2) years of experience performing duties such as actively participating and/or leading safety committees, working on H&S initiatives, participating on emergency response/behavior based safety teams, or participating in MSHA/OSHA inspections, OR
  • Associate’s degree and two (2) years of Health & Safety experience, OR
  • Bachelor’s degree (no experience required)
