Job Description:

Our client is seeking an experienced Corporate Resource Geologist to join their team in their corporate office located in Vancouver.

The Company
Our client is a Gold producer mine that creates value through gold, producing 376,012 oz Au in 2018 at the 100% owned Mine and firmly establishing the company as an Intermediate Producer.
This mine is a high-grade gold underground mine located in northwestern British Columbia, approximately 65 kilometers north of Stewart. In 2018, the company received amended permits to increase production by 40% to 3,800 tpd.

The Role
Reporting to the VP, Geology and Chief Geologist, the Corporate Resource Geologist will be responsible for all stages of the resource's estimation process, from data validation through domain model improvement (co-working with a modeling geologist), with the aim to grade estimation, valid the block model and present accurate technical reports. Additional responsibilities will extend to the preliminary grade estimates for Greenfields and Brownfields exploration.

The Responsibilities

  • Work with the head office and mine-based geology and engineering departments to ensure database quality and integrity

  • Integrate collective knowledge of deposit geology and mine production into grade estimation to ensure appropriate modeling and validity

  • Generate and validate global resource models for annual reconciliation

  • Generate and validate local models for short-to medium term mine planning and grade control

  • Continually test and refine estimation parameters and processes to optimize estimation methodology and predictive capabilities of mineral resource models

  • Prepare internal reports, memoranda, presentations and technical documents detailing findings

  • Prepare relevant sections of NI43-101 technical reports for securities filing, as appropriate

  • Promote and champion collaboration, and information flow between exploration, geology, project development, mining and operations departments

  • Mentor, coach, and develop team members at the Vancouver Head Office and on the minesite on data quality, database integrity, resource estimation, validation, grade control modelling, and reconciliation

The Requirements

  • Bachelor or post-graduate degree in geology, preferable with specialization in geostatistics

  • At least 10 years of experience in mineral exploration, geological modelling and mineral resource estimation, with knowledge of underground mine planning, production, grade control and reconciliation

  • Professional Geoscientist (P. Geo) registration in BC

  • A strong background in geology with knowledge of high-grade gold deposits. Volcanic arc settings are preferred

  • Demonstrated experience in the application of advanced geostatical techniques, including non-linear estimation and simulation, in support of mining decisions

  • Proven experience with:
    - Surface and underground exploration planning, drilling, sampling, sample chain of custody, QAQC, and database management, all following CIM Best Practices Guidelines;
    - Geological/geometallurgical modelling, geostatical principals and analysis, mineral resource estimation, resource confidence classification, technical documentation following CIM Best Practice Guidelines;
    - NI 43-101 public reporting requirements, and N1 43-101 technical report preparation

  • High level of competency with modeling and estimation software, including Maptek Vulcan, Leapfrog, Geo/Edge, GSLIB and Snowden Supervisor. Scripting ability in Vulcan and experience using Geovariance's Isatis software would be beneficial
