Job Description:

Ambatovy Joint Venture operation in Madagascar, are recruiting a well experienced Principle Engineer Refinery to coordinate multidiscipline engineering services specific to the Refinery.

The Role

The Principle Engineer Refinery is the accountable business partner who will be required to work with stakeholders (Operations, Asset Integrity, Projects Execution, Maintenance and Reliability teams) on the engineering solutions and modifications necessary to optimize operations in the Refinery.


  • Be aware of, understand and comply with the Ambatovy Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ) Policies and associated documentation.

  • Ensure technical quality and timely delivery of the project / work.

  • Establish and maintain weekly progress meetings with the Area manager or representative of his/her production zone.

  • Field all requests for engineering services from the production zone and rank them according to the RAM matrix.

  • Take note of the various disciplines and competences required to achieve the objectives outlined in the project/work request and with the Technical Authority form a specific team for the work to be completed

  • Coordinate engineering with Technical Authority.

  • Track objectives, engineering staff within the team, the end date and any delays incurred.

  • Track the use and cost of contractors and contracting companies on a monthly basis.

  • Report progress of all projects in weekly approved report in Excel file to Chief Engineer and Manager Engineering.

  • Hold a weekly meeting with the Chief Engineer to communicate progress (milestones achieved, expenditure, resource-hours, delays)


  • University Degree Chemical Engineer and Master Degree in Chemical Engineering. I.Mech.E or P.E or equivalent.

  • Minimum 10 years' experience within a Senior Engineer role in a modern downstream plant.

  • Knowledge and experience in the following:

    • Basic process engineering

    • Mechanics, materials and fabrication

    • Evaluation of seismic/ cyclone/ degradation stresses.

    • Mechanical stress calculation (simple).

    • Turnaround experience (at least 3 turnarounds from beginning to end).

    • Project management experience.

  • Previous experience with the management of a team size of 10 - 20 individuals.

  • Training and developing subordinates to assume positions of greater responsibility in the organization.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a focus on Functional Cultural awareness.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in French and working knowledge of written and spoken English.
