Ambatovy Nickel Cobalt operations in Madagascar is currently searching for a Superintendent Mine Operations - Drill and Blast to be jointly accountable for the safe and efficient execution of the mine plan on a daily and weekly basis.

The Role

The Superintendent Mine Operations is accountable for the safe execution of all mining activities, continuous cross-shift performance, the establishment and maintenance of areas standards, and the delivery of agreed objectives in areas of total movement and cost.

The Responsibilities

  • Be aware, understand, communicate and comply with the Ambatovy Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ) Policies and associated documentation.

  • Leading and ensuring that the FMS (WENCO) is fully utilised and effective.

  • Plan, monitor and conduct blast hole drilling and blasting activities as per production needs.

  • Manage explosive contactor on-site with regards to compliance of all Ambatovy training, procedures and policy.

  • Directly accountable for the cost-effective and performance of the operation.

The Requirements

  • Relevant Degree in Mining / Safety / Leadership and a recognized shot-firers ticket or blasting licence.

  • A minimum of 10 years' experience in modern large open pit mining operations-with specific drilling and blasting experience.

  • Operating and training skills on drilling and ancillary (Dozer, Front End Loader, MMU) equipment.

  • Excellent technical and production knowledge of Fleet Management Systems and the ability to embed that experience (WENCO is preferred).

  • Demonstrated applied learning in areas of mining safety, methods, standards and business improvement.

  • Excellent understanding and acceptance of risk assessment and analysis systems.

  • Budget understanding, development and analysis.

  • Practical and varied experience in mine operations management in differing conditions, i.e. high rainfall.

  • Training and developing subordinates to assume positions of greater responsibility in the organization.

  • Language skills: English is essential. French is highly advantageous.
