Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced Project Manager to be responsible for all aspects of the development of a mining project in Spain. The role will be located at the mine site.

The Company

We are working on behalf of a global developer and explorer of world-class mineral deposits.

The Position

The Project Manager will direct and develop the project, taking ownership through involvement with the advanced PFS study through to commissioning and operation. This person will report directly to the Managing Director and have a dotted line to the Technical Advisor and Feasibility Manager with the responsibility to commission the project, managing all the technical and construction aspects as well as social and environmental. Also key will be liaising with government as well as maintaining the good name of the company within the country.


  • Working closely with the Feasibility Manager, develop the overall project management plan and monitor its implementation and progress to ensure project completion in a safe manner, within budget, on schedule and in accordance with the appropriate standards, specifications and regulatory requirements.

  • Work with the Feasibility Manager to complete a Spanish version of the feasibility study for submission to the relevant authorities.

  • Manage the permitting applications with the relevant regulatory authorities for the satellite open pit deposits.

  • Ensure that appropriate procedures are in place to ensure full compliance with all reporting and advisory requirements to governmental and legislated authorities.

  • Ensure environmental, health and safety compliance throughout the project life.

  • Build and manage both the project development team and the transition to operations

  • Manage and understand all aspects of the technical design

  • Appoint and manage consultants

  • Appoint and manage constructors and suppliers

  • Ensure a significant and appropriate level of local contractor involvement

  • Maintain tight financial controls

  • Provide regular updates to the Managing Directors and a monthly written report to the Managing Director for inclusion to the Board, on all relevant aspects of the project including at minimum health and safety, environmental, community relations, regulatory issues, HR, design development, construction process, financial status, project risks.

  • Develop business systems and appropriate governance and operating controls over health and safety, accounting, procurement, employment and human resources management, contractor and third party engagement and monitoring.

  • Assist in the development of a safety first culture across the mine site.

  • Assist the Managing Director in local commercial discussions.

The Requirements

  • University Qualifications: Bachelors' degree or higher in mine engineering, or equivalent construction and project management experience

  • Experienced in project management, report and proposal writing

  • Previous work experience getting all the permitting done for a mining project

  • Permitting skills must include a working knowledge of regulations, permitting processes, environmental technologies, team management and mining operation requirements

  • Familiarity with Australian and/or international mining operations, including policies and procedures and requirements under JORC reporting.

  • Must be fluent in written and spoken English and Spanish.
