Ambatovy Nickel Cobalt operations in Madagascar is currently searching for a Superintendent Health & Safety to effectively support the BU at the Mine by rolling-out HS plan and developing the competency management process.

The Role

The Superintendent Health & Safety reports to the Manager, Health and Safety, coordinating the HS management system and audit process.

The Responsibilities

  • Ensure appropriate emergency preparedness and response plans are in place

  • Understand the HSE risks and ensure the use of the site or business unit risk framework and controls for their management

  • Take every reasonable precaution to prevent occupational injuries, illnesses and fatalities

  • Ensure there are adequate financial, human, technological and organizational resources to manage HSE risks and to control and recover from disaster and emergency situations

  • Execute HSE strategies and continuous improvement plans

  • Lead incident investigations to identify root causes and corrective and preventive actions

  • Manage the HS management system at the mine by providing updated documentation, regular reviews, interpretations of leading or lagging trends, follow-up on preventative and corrective actions status

  • Training and developing subordinates to assume positions of greater responsibility in the organization

The Requirements

  • Diploma or degree a Health & Safety discipline

  • Expert on Health and safety standards, their implementation, inspections, audits and cultural HS development

  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing teams in HSE leadership position

  • Experience in an African remote mining environment

  • A successful track record of coaching and mentoring

  • Experience with change management

  • Knowledge of performance standards,risk frameworks and systems

  • It is essential to be fully bilingual: French and English
