A great opportunity for an experienced engineer to join a dynamic global mining company and participate in its growth. Globe 24-7, in partnership with Newcrest Mining Limited is working together to source experienced and qualified talent for their Red Chris Joint Venture located 80 km south of Dease Lake, BC in Tahltan traditional territory.


Newcrest Mining Limited, a global mining company and Australia's largest gold producer owns and operates a portfolio of predominantly low cost, long life mines and a strong pipeline of Brownfields and Greenfields exploration projects. The company has recently expanded its footprint into British Columbia as the operator of a Joint Venture company, Newcrest Red Chris Mining Limited.


Reporting to the Superintendent Tailings & Water Management, the Tailings & Water Management - Senior Engineer is responsible for the construction, maintenance and surveillance of the projects 30,000 mtpd tailings impoundment facilities and associated water management systems, working closely with the Operations and Environmental teams.


  • Site investigations for the tailings impoundment & water management systems

  • Planning, construction and operation of the tailings impoundment facility in accordance with the design and performance objectives set by the Engineer of Record

  • Supervision of technical and tailings operations staff

  • Developing short range tailings deposition plans, implementing and tracking execution vs plan

  • Representing Red Chris during inspections by Ministry of Mines, Ministry of Environment, with contractors, and participating in Independent Engineering Review Panel meetings

  • Compiling month end reports, accruals, tailings deposition summaries

  • Implementing the sites Towards Sustainable Mining - Tailings Management System

  • Development of scopes of work, tender documents and administering construction contracts

  • Implementation of the Quality Control Plan during construction

  • Overseeing completion of dam inspections and instrumentation monitoring

  • Assist with the annual budget development for the TIA

  • Coordination of all Provincial and Federal permit and reporting requirements for compliancy

  • Acting as the designate for the Superintendent Tailings & Water Management and assuming the role and responsibilities during their absence


  • A degree in Geotechnical Engineering, or related field

  • Registered or eligible for registration as a professional engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of B.C.

  • Minimum of 7 years directly related industry experience

  • PMP certification would be considered an asset

  • Extensive experience in design and operation of tailings facilities

  • Knowledge of applicable federal, provincial and local codes and safety laws

  • Must have excellent organizational abilities as well as strong supervisory and people skills

  • Detail and results oriented with the ability to multitask, and adhere to deadlines

  • Strong computer skills, familiar with 3D modeling software such as MineSight
