Job Description:


A great opportunity for an experienced professional to lead the strategies and plans for Entre Mares (EM), a Bluestone Resources Inc. company, and provide strategic leadership in the areas of social responsibility, health & safety, and environment.


The Company


Entre Mares de Guatemala is a natural resource company focused on advancing the permitted, high-grade Cerro Blanco gold project located in the southwestern part of Guatemala. It is a values-based organization committed to investing in people and local communities, operating in a safe and sustainable manner utilizing innovation and respecting the environment.


The Role


The Senior Manager will undertake proactive and strategic communications activities for promoting socioeconomic performance and stakeholder awareness of operational activities to advance sustainable development, ensuring strategies, tactical activities and management systems comply with the company's requirement (based on international standards of best practice in socioeconomic performance in compliance with Guatemalan rules, laws and regulations).


This role will work to ensure compliance with IFC Performance Standards and Environment & Safety Management Plans.


This role will work in close collaboration with the following areas:



  • Project Execution Team

  • EM Corporate Affairs

  • EM Human Resources

  • EM Finance & Administration

  • EM Mine Operations

  • EM Surface Operations

  • Bluestone Executive Team


Reporting to the General Manager and Country Manager, you will be accountable for:


Social Responsibility



  • Identify and manage socioeconomic risks and opportunities in the region, considering priority local, regional and national stakeholders.

  • Develop and implement an effective management system for socioeconomic performance, including monitoring, evaluating and communicating outcomes from projects and programs.

  • Direct the implementation of a social performance 5-year strategic plan, reporting progress, challenges and outcomes monthly to senior management.

  • Lead all monthly, quarterly and annual socioeconomic performance reporting requirements to senior management.

  • Ensure all socioeconomic performance activities, plans and strategies are based on robust research such as baseline data, comprehensive diagnostics, stakeholder perception studies, and in-depth understanding of the regional context.

  • Develop and implement annual staffing, training, resourcing plans and budgets to ensure that the team has the resources and capacity to proactively manage relationships with key stakeholders and implement the 5-year strategic plan.

  • Collaborate with other companies and organizations operating within the region to develop and implement socioeconomic development projects


Health and Safety



  • Oversee the development and delivery of an annual HSE business plan including, deploying resources to meet the plan and budget objectives

  • Ensure Health and Safety processes, policies, systems, and management plans to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and relevant industry standards, procedures, risk management processes are in place

  • Ensure programs to control and prevent personal harm from chemical, biological, ergonomic, and physical hazards are in place

  • Ensure robust risk management, accident investigation and corrective action systems are used effectively


Environment



  • Lead and oversee the activities related to environmental assessments and permit applications for the project.

  • Interface and communicate with various levels of government, stakeholders and communities to advance permitting activities.

  • Provide corporate technical support about environmental compliance, governance and permitting.

  • Keep abreast of existing and pending legislation and regulations, which may impact the company's plans and activities; coordinate and disseminate regulatory information within the company.


CROSS-FUNCTIONAL COLLABORATION



  • Collaborate with the Finance & Administration and Human Resources areas to identify and address obstacles for optimizing local recruitment, retention, promotion and procurement within the Area of Influence.

  • Collaborate with Corporate Affairs to effectively develop and implement strategic communication of the company's socioeconomic objectives and performance to external and internal audiences.

  • Work collaboratively with the engineering team and proactively identify opportunities to improve project environmental design aspects and streamline regulatory processes


Our Requirements:


Core Competencies - Technical:



  • Academic: University Degree in Sustainable Development, Environmental Management/Engineering, Regional Economic Development, Community Planning, International Development or related field

  • Project Management Certificate Advisable

  • 15 years of experience in H&S, environment and sustainable socioeconomic development within mining, oil and gas sector or similar industries.

  • At least 5 years of experience working in communities with similar socioeconomic conditions as Guatemala

  • Proven experience in sustainable socioeconomic development, social risk management, strategic social investment and proactive stakeholder engagement.

  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams of managers and professionals.

  • Strong understanding of project finance principle

  • Previous experience achieving satisfaction/compliance with the IFC performance

  • Willingness to travel as work requires.

  • Language: Fluency in English and Spanish, written and spoken required
