Job Description:

We are currently looking for a Tailings Specialist with a strong background in mine tailing's management or water dam management (consultancy and / or mine operation). Advanced knowledge of the Brazilian regulatory environment related to dams and international standards. This is a local search in Brazil, the position will be based in Goiás state.

The Position


This is an opportunity for a bilingual professional (Portuguese and English). Reporting to a Tailings Manager, the Tailings Specialist is responsible for the support of the local operation and corporate team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with the company's tailings management system, with all necessary local, corporate, and legal requirements as they evolve. Also, this professional will work with various departments, as the corporate Tailings Team and the registration engineer ("EoR") for an increasingly safe operation. He/she needs to be able to perform other responsibilities as needed or designated and perform highly complex services in the construction, installation, operation, and Tailings maintenance. This professional will need to comply with internal rules and procedures and pertinent to the specific legislation of the area.


Responsibilities


The general accountabilities and outputs for the Tailings Specialist are:



  • To carry out geotechnical programs for the site, providing support for analysis and design and implementing continuous improvement measures, conducting monitoring and stability analysis, according to best geotechnical practices, taking the necessary decisions.

  • To conduct regular geotechnical inspections at the tailings dam, reporting the inspections and providing recommendations to the Mine, Environment and Processing operations groups in order to take decision on what should be done.

  • To update the dam safety plan (PSB) (plan, organize, update the safety plan, and maintain an organized file system)

  • To plan and execute control and physical progress of the works and closing the dam.

  • To guarantee the quality of the work, respecting the project and internal rules.

  • To develop and define short and long-term lifting plans that will achieve regulatory compliance by working with engineering, environment, processing, and design teams.

  • To coordinate the work done with the consultants and the registration engineer ("EoR") to continuously implement quality control, construction monitoring and dam surveillance programs.

  • To update the pre-established emergency care plan and provide technical guidance, training for operational staff on issues related to tailings management and Emergency care plan.

  • To design and implement programs (technical and training) to identify, eliminate or mitigate geotechnical risks, close gaps and improve projects and supervise, train and guide field geotechnical engineering personnel.

  • To maintain an action plan for the necessary tasks and their current status to ensure compliance and compliance with the delivery of these tasks.

  • To analyze the audit and inspection reports related to the dam and making appropriate decisions; Provide necessary reports to the website, companies, and government agencies.

  • To assist in the preparation of the annual budget of the area, according to principles established by the unit.

  • Closing monthly and annual reports with appropriate presentations.


Requirements



  • Bachelor in Geological, Geotechnical or Civil Engineering.

  • Updated CREA registration.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in mine tailing's management or water dam management (consultancy and / or mine operation).

  • Advanced proficiency in written and spoken English.

  • Advanced knowledge of the Brazilian regulatory environment related to dams (Law No. 12,334 / 2010; Resolution CNRH No. 143/2012; Resolution CNRH No. 144/2012; Normative Resolution ANEEL No. 696/2015; Resolution ANA No. 236/2016; Resolution ANA No. 236 / 2016; ANM Ordinance No. 70,389 / 2017); Resolution No. 13, August 8, 2019, Ordinance No. 146, July 22, 2019.

  • Knowledge of international and foreign protocols or best practices, such as the Waste Management Protocol for Sustainable Mining (TSM®), from the Mining Association of Canada (MAC).

  • Knowledge and experience in the Emergency Action Plan for Tailings Dams (PAEBM) and international standards, such as United Nations Awareness and Preparation for Emergencies at Local Level - APELL for Mining.

  • Advanced computer skills, including proficiency in tailings modeling and design and Microsoft Office Suite® applications.

  • Ability to excel in a team-based environment.

  • Experience in analysis of geotechnical data, on-site investigations, evaluation, and project management.

  • A strong leader in operations, technical and project teams, and a proven mentor and guide of emerging talent.
