Globe 24-7, in partnership with their client is working together to source experienced and qualified talent for their Copper/gold operations in Northern British Columbia.


THE COMPANY


Our clients are a global mining company and Australia's largest gold producer owning and operating a portfolio of predominantly low cost, long life mines and a strong pipeline of Brownfields and Greenfields exploration projects. The company has recently expanded its footprint into North America operating its first operations in British Columbia.


THE ROLE


Reporting to the General Manager, the Tailings Impoundment Area (TIA) Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring that the tailings impoundment area is constructed, operated, maintained and managed according to current recognized standards, including all construction, maintenance and surveillance of the projects 30,000 mtpd tailings impoundment facilities and associated water management systems.


The position is designated as the TSF qualified person for the safe management of the TIA as required by the Health, Safety and Reclamation Code for Mines in British Columbia (The Code) Section 10.4.2 (b).


Two positions report to the TIA Operations Manager: Operations Superintendent TIA and Construction Superintendent TIA.


THE RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Management, planning, construction and operation of the TIA in accordance with the design and performance objectives set by the Engineer of Record (EoR). This is currently BGC.

  • Active participation in and preparation for all governance activities as required by Section 10.4.2 of the Code.

  • Coordination of all Provincial and Federal permit and reporting requirements for compliancy

  • Representing the TIA operations during inspections by Ministry of Mines, Ministry of Environment, with contractors, and participating in Independent Engineering Review Panel meetings and act as the Qualified Person (QP) for the site Tailings impoundment area.

  • The planning and scheduling of seasonal on-site dam construction.

  • Implementation of the Quality Control Plan during construction.

  • The annual report of TIA activities in accordance with Section 10.4.4 of The Code.

  • The annual winter preparation and summer construction season work programme in collaboration with the EoR.

  • Oversight and reporting of both operational and construction activities to ensure annual and long term plans are met.

  • Site investigations for the tailings impoundment and water management systems.

  • Management of the cycloned sand distribution system, including on-going continuous improvement activities of the cycloned sand system and the cycloned sand placement.

  • Supervision and mentoring of technical and tailings operational staff.

  • Project leadership in the areas of cycloned sand tailings dam construction.

  • Implementing Towards Sustainable Mining - Tailings Management System for the site Mine tailings impoundment area.

  • Conduct inspections of all dams and related infrastructure according to the current guidelines.


THE REQUIREMENTS



  • A degree in Geotechnical Engineering, or related field

  • Minimum of 15+ years' directly related dam construction experience on large scale tailings storage facilities including all tailings dam construction methods.

  • Minimum 15+ years' experience in the construction of cycloned sand tailings dams with excellent knowledge of downstream and upstream mechanical and hydraulic cycloned sand placement.

  • Experienced candidates will have acted as a technical leader within the area of geotechnical involvement for mining projects including the full life cycle for tailings management.

  • Knowledge of applicable federal, provincial and local codes and safety laws.

  • Must have excellent organizational abilities as well as strong supervisory and people skills.

  • Detail and results oriented with the ability to multi-task, and adhere to deadlines.

  • Strong computer skills, familiar with 3D modeling software such as MineSight.
