Training and Development Superintendent




A great opportunity for an experienced, results-focused professional to support the HR Department with Training and Development governance to ensure training quality and effectiveness is maintained to reach full potential of each employee.

The Role


This role will primarily focus on Designing training to the employees and contractors and Leading the Training Team.



He / She will also have secondary responsibilities, as assigned/required, for the research, design, coordination, implementation, and teaching of new and/or revised programs of instruction for the Program. The Superintendent will develop a liaison with external companies, educational centers, government entities, local government and authorities, on behalf of the HR Senior Manager for the purpose of developing and maintaining high quality programs within Standards and guidelines of Bluestone Resources, Inc.



The role will involve examining corporate activities to determine where and how improvements can be made and ensuring compliance with environmental legislation across the organization.


Key areas of responsibility:



  • Accountable for Training and Development need and competency gap analysis

  • Planning, organisation, evaluation, recording and maintaining of all training content and documentation

  • Training development (leadership, internal)

  • Ensuring consistent competency standards and high quality of all training content and processes

  • Leading the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives related to training

  • Ensuring all training plans, pathways etc are up to date and maintained

  • Managing budget, financials, planning cycles & resource allocation

  • Suppliers management

  • Training facilities management

  • Ensuring effective communication and engagement support model is in place for on the job Trainer & Assessors

  • Work with the HR Senior Manager to ensure appropriate planning for Training and Development.

  • Being involved on the design of Organizational Development and Career Plans, when applied.

  • Ensure the execution of all requirements under Environmental Social Management Plan ("ESMP").

  • Design, implement and execute integrated management systems and standards, policies, and procedures in relation to Learning and Development.

  • Provide safe, efficient and cost-effective project control and leadership of the Training and Development team aligned to the business strategy and goals.

  • Drive behaviours, accountabilities, standards and frameworks to develop and maintain a business focused, high performance culture enabling continuous improvement.

  • Manage all training and development activities, including the preparation of different learning plans for technical and core competencies

  • Running and tracking the annual budget and costs for the area

  • Implement the strategies, policies, plans, programs, and learning and development projects aligned with Corporate goals.

  • Ensure all construction work force is trained as planned in accordance with the required standards (IFC, World Bank, and Government authorities).

  • Liaise closely with the CSR department to ensure all RAP (Resettlement Action Plan) and associated learning programs are correctly planned, managed and implemented.

  • Communicate requirements to the construction teams (owner and contractors) so that all training is properly planned and conducted.

  • Develop and conduct training and educational programs, new hires onboarding, assessments, and training personnel in the action plans.

  • Demonstrate absolute commitment and leadership in providing a safe working environment.

  • Integrate learning and development initiatives into departmental planning, decision making, systems and processes.

  • Complete and or review necessary statutory Learning reports and ensure accurate internal reporting of Learning and Development performance.

  • Prepare timely, accurate and detailed reports to meet Company requirements, assuming lead responsibility in the Company.



Our Requirements:


Formal Education, Certifications or Equivalents



  • BSc/BA in Business, Psychology, Engineering or a related


Working Experience - Nature & Length



  • Minimum 8 years of experience within the Training and Development area (ideally in a similar environment: blue/white collar, construction, mining, etc.)


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities



  • Proven experience as an T&D Superintendent, Training Manager or similar, in designing and delivering general training

  • Must be knowledgeable of current learning theories (adult, behavioural, environmental, scenario) and on-the-job training methodologies

  • Experience in project management and budgeting, managing vendors

  • Ability to work under minimum supervision and manage a small team

  • Ability to deal with all levels of the organization. Able to work in a team environment

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Strong interpersonal, communication (verbal & written), and organizational skills

  • Proficient in MS Office and Learning Management Systems (LMS)

  • Availability to travel

  • Fluent Spanish and Advanced English



*This is a permanent full-time opportunity to commence immediately. The Training and Development Superintendent will be based out of Asuncion Mita but may be required to spend some time in Guatemala City. We therefore require a candidate who can work flexible rosters, sometimes with short notice, to align with business needs. The ideal candidate will be results focused, and have experience working in a similar role.
