OPEN PIT MINING ENGINEER


A great opportunity for an experienced mining engineer to join a dynamic global mining company and participate in its growth.


OVERVIEW


Globe 24-7, in partnership with their client is working together to source experienced and qualified talent for their Copper/gold operations in Northern British Columbia.


THE COMPANY


Our clients are a global mining company and Australia's largest gold producer owning and operating a portfolio of predominantly low cost, long life mines and a strong pipeline of Brownfields and Greenfields exploration projects. The company has recently expanded its footprint into North America operating its first operations in British Columbia.


THE ROLE


The Open Pit Mining Engineer will provide aligned, consistent, high-quality short term mine plans required to support surface production at the operations. The other essential duty of the Short-Range Planner is to provide drill and blast support to surface operations across the site.


THE RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Aligned with company values with an emphasis on safe open-pit production

  • Being a safety leader across the site

  • Assist in the establishment and continued compliance with standards for safe mine development and production

  • Consistently comply with operation's safety management systems, environmental requirements, internal team safety requirements and other relevant targets

  • Create optimised short‐term weekly mine plans that align with the quarterly and annual budget

  • Drive compliance to mine and drill and blast plan

  • Time in the field with supervisors, operators and the technical team is critical to of the role

  • Track and present weekly progress data for the weekly manager's meeting.

  • Technical input toward achieving the annual open pit operating budget physicals, costs and capital

  • Project work/management, which may include cross-department consultation, to improve open-pit operations

  • Design detailed surface blast layouts with consideration for wall control, fragmentation, rock/ore type, geotechnical structures, and cost

  • Perform in-depth blast QAQC and reconciliation; this includes an evaluation of blast performance through fragmentation, movement, actual powder factor vs design powder factor, and final wall for trim patterns

  • Manage the explosives stocks and ordering to ensure adequate supplies are available to meet plan

  • Deliver daily tracking of the drilling, loading, and blasting conditions

  • Take ownership of Blastmasters and ensure input is sought from Key Stakeholders

  • Develop and implement procedures, processes and databases for all drill and blast engineering functions (drill and blast, cost and reporting)

  • Improve blasting performance, develop in continuous improvement projects which aim to optimise drilling and blasting

  • Improve/optimise the short-range plan and utilise available technology to exceed the plan (MineSight, planning software, etc.)

  • Assist in project management and commercial justification and contribute to business improvements that drive productivity improvements and cost efficiencies within the open pit


THE REQUIREMENTS



  • A demonstrated commitment to safety.

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Mine Engineering, from an accredited University, technical school or college required.

  • Eng. or the ability to become P.Eng. within BC

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as both a Drill and Blast Engineer and a Short-Range Planner.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment

  • Ability to make decisions without complete information.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other departments.

  • Use of MineSight or other 3d modelling software in mine planning

  • Scheduling software such as Atlas (Preferred), Deswik, Xecute

  • Expert knowledge of the fundamentals of drill and blast

  • Strong communication and presenting skills

  • Underground drill and blast operational experience desirable

  • Geology and geotechnical engineering experience desirable

  • Supervisory mine operations experience desirable
