A great opportunity for an experienced TIA Operational leader to join a dynamic global mining company and participate in its growth. Globe 24-7, in partnership with their client is working together to source experienced and qualified talent for their Copper/gold operations in Northern British Columbia.


Our clients are a global mining company and Australia's largest gold producer owning and operating a portfolio of predominantly low cost, long life mines and a strong pipeline of Brownfields and Greenfields exploration projects. The company has recently expanded its footprint into North America operating its first operations in British Columbia.


For their operations, our clients are recruiting a Tailings Impoundment Area (TIA) Operations Superintendent to join the Tailings Impoundment Area Department. This position is for work at the remote Mine located 80 km south of Dease Lake, BC, on the traditional territory of the Tahltan. The successful applicant will be required to work and stay in camp during their shift rotation. We offer a number of designated flight marshalling points within BC. Reporting to the Tailings Impoundment (TIA) Operations Manager, responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Actively support the company's 3 pillar of safety of NewSafe, CCM and Process Safety

  • Lead the Tailings Impoundment Area Operational Team to manage, plan, construct and operate the Tailings Impoundment Area in accordance with the design and performance objectives set by the Engineer of Record

  • Accountable and full responsible for all daily tailing's operational management activities as well as the on-site dam construction contractor

  • Project Leadership to implement, plan and manage the cyclone sand distribution system and the cyclone sand placement system including Business Improvement Projects with a focus on mechanical and hydraulic cyclone sand placement on centreline raised dams

  • Lead the Quality Control Plan during the dam construction season

  • Provide operational leadership to the Tailings Impoundment Area Operational Team which includes: Geotechnical, Civil, Survey, Operational Dam Construction Planning

  • Conduct inspections of all dams and related infrastructure according to the current guidelines


  • A professional degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field

  • 10 - 15 years experience directly related to dam construction on large scale tailings storage facilities including all tailings dam construction methods

  • Minimum 10+years experience in the construction of cyclone sand tailings dams with excellent knowledge of downstream and upstream mechanical and hydraulic cyclone sand placement

  • Experienced candidates will have acted as an operational leader within the area of the full cycle of tailings impoundment management

  • Ability to make decisions under conditions of uncertainty
