UG Mining Engineer Sr (Rapid Development)

A great opportunity for an experienced underground mining professional to join a dynamic global mining company and participate in its growth. Globe 24-7, in partnership with their client is working together to source experienced and qualified talent for their Copper/gold operations in Northern British Columbia.


Our clients are a global mining company and Australia's largest gold producer owning and operating a portfolio of predominantly low cost, long life mines and a strong pipeline of Brownfields and Greenfields exploration projects. The company has recently expanded its footprint into North America operating its first operations in British Columbia.


The purpose of the role is to provide engineering functional support to the execution of the early works project, including the rapid development project to decrease the time to first production. Assist in managing a small owner's team, various stakeholders and contractors, to deliver the exploration decline to meet the requirements of the Block Cave business plan.

This person will be assisting in the development of an underground mining team capable of leading the next stages of block cave construction at Red Chris.


  • Take a lead role in setting up the site processes to support underground mining including, mine design and execution approval systems, ground control management plan, ventilation management plan, health and safety management plan, operations procedures, etc.

  • Lead the development and implementation of the Rapid Development Project in cooperation with the Development Contractor

  • Assist in the tendering process to create a recommendation to award in all areas to support the Exploration Decline.

  • Apply sound engineering design principles to the overall mining plan (design and schedule), work methods (equipment selection, task sequencing, skillsets), and quality assurance (survey, KPIs and other measures) to comply with the Newcrest standards and all applicable regulatory requirements.

  • Create detailed Issued for Construction (IFC) designs based on the preliminary design from the study team.

  • Assist in managing the contractor to the contract terms.

  • Assist in the management of the construction of the Exploration Decline, including:

    • The box cut and portal

    • Support infrastructure including office/dry/workshop/ power supply facilities.

    • The underground decline, ventilation raises and drill platform.

  • Provide safety leadership to the project with a strong focus on process safety and culture.

  • Assist in building the site underground technical team that will proceed with the next steps of underground construction (pending approval) including training / mentor and recruitment efforts.

  • Challenge assumptions and foster innovative thinking, to deliver the best outcomes for Newcrest and partners.


  • 10+ years of experience as a Mining Engineer or related, in operating underground mines and projects under development/expansion

  • Strong background in mine planning, design, quality assurance and contractor management

  • Previous working experience with the block caving method a plus

  • Solid understanding of operational, technical, and engineering components of the dynamic projects

  • Experience with Norther Canadian mining projects/operations

  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) upwards (to General Manager/Study Manager/Project Director) and to Operational and Technical levels

  • Working experience managing and mentoring junior staff

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant engineering field

  • Availability to work under 12:9 rotation with some flexibility as per project requirements
