General Supervisor Security


Ambatovy Joint Venture operation in Madagascar, is recruiting an experienced General Supervisor Security to organize, maintain and coordinate security for Ambatovy sites (Mine and Plant), and associated off site facilities ensuring the safety and security of Ambatovy human and physical resources.

The Role


The Senior Security Supervisor report into the Superintendent Security and will establish and maintain security systems, including access control, technical security elements such as alarm systems, cameras, monitoring equipment and site specific security procedures in compliance with the Ambatovy Security Management System.



The Responsibilities



  • Develop and maintain emergency response and contingency plans and programs related to the security and protection of people, processes, equipment, and company assets.

  • Establish tactical information networks essential to site Security operations.

  • Conduct Security Vulnerability and Risk Assessments and briefings as required.

  • Proactively provide security assessments and information to the Ambatovy Security Manager to anticipate and prevent security issues.

  • Coordinate with site management and Contractors' Superintendents/Managers regarding the Security system.

  • Monitor security related activities of contractors, Gendarmes and other stakeholders.

  • Develop and maintain the Security Management Plan and understand the related budget.

  • Conduct internal security preliminary investigations and in coordination with the Ambatovy Security Superintendent, evaluate and determine serious security offences.

  • Manage Security contractors, local Police and Gendarmes in the area directly impacted by operations.

  • Act as Security Superintendent when that person is on leave.

  • Ensure the respect of Voluntary Principles of Human Rights in all sites of Ambatovy.

  • Communicate with local authorities on security issues and initiatives.

  • Therefore, it falls to the 2IC Superintendent and/or Security Manager, to regularly according to instructions received, check every constituent of the security system, to include:

    • Organisational consistency and practical adjustment to the current situation.

    • Appropriateness of plans and procedures.

    • Staff number and professional competence for the mission.

    • Staff knowledge of the mission and relating procedures and instructions.

    • Staff knowledge and implementation of recommendations in Safety and Environmental domains as well as indisputable principles relating to self-defence, use of force and Employment regulations.

    • Quality and compliance with security performance at all facilities and worksites.

    • Equipment and premises adjustment to the workload and working conditions.

    • Adequate administrative support owed to all security personnel (administration, contractual terms and Employment rights, etc.)



  • Approve all OPEX cost according to policy and within approved budget.


The Requirements



  • Related Degree in Security or similar is essential. Masters is highly advantageous.

  • Military/Law Enforcement training programs followed by extensive on the job training and practical experience in a security function within the Extractive Industry.

  • EX Police force or Military background (NCO or Officer).

  • Physical security training and recognized qualifications (non-Government).

  • Good Knowledge of and working experience with, Voluntary Principles of Human Rights.

  • 10 years' experience in a similar position with a focus on CCTV surveillance, control room management, access control.

  • Strong ability to analyse and utilize information within a threat and vulnerability focus.

  • Ability to manage a security service based on a community and government engagement strategy.

  • Training and development of local teams is essential.

  • Fully Bilingual English and French.
