SENIOR PROJECT GEOLOGIST - EXPLORATION


OVERVIEW


Globe 24-7, in partnership with their client is working together to source experienced and qualified talent for their underground expansion project at their Copper/gold operations in Northern British Columbia.


THE COMPANY


Our clients are a global mining company and Australia's largest gold producer owning and operating a portfolio of predominantly low cost, long life mines and a strong pipeline of Brownfields and Greenfields exploration projects. The company has recently expanded its footprint into North America operating its first operations in British Columbia.


THE ROLE


To assess exploration projects which have a high probability of becoming Tier 1 or Tier 2 assets.


This will be achieved through:



  • Leading project-based exploration teams, and to provide technical oversight to exploration projects.

  • As required, plan, implement and execute safe, cost-effective exploration programs in the Canada exploration portfolio with the goal of making an economic Au/Au-Cu discovery that satisfies company's investment criteria.

  • Participate in new project opportunity reviews, due diligence and assessments as required.

  • Ensuring developed standards in exploration evaluation are applied to existing projects


THE RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Full authority to stop any exploration activity deemed to be unsafe.

  • Ensure safety management systems & tools (NewSafe, Critical CCM - SV, FCCC, SSC) are used to manage safety risk and critical tasks associated with exploration projects.

  • Ensure legal duty of care associated with exploration is well understood for projects under your management, and that the wider team understands requirements.

  • Ensure exploration minimum requirements for environmental management are imbedded in all exploration and assist in implementing programs to manage environmental compliance.

  • Champion, and plan exploration programs as required. Use NCM systems to manage and monitor performance.

  • As appropriate, oversee the management of project field crews / teams undertaking specific work programs, and assign clear goals and deliverables to achieve program objectives.

  • Provide technical and management direction, support, guidance and goals for junior exploration staff, partners and contract personnel in regard exploration strategy, requirements, and delivery time frame.

  • Collect geological data including geological mapping, stream, soil, auger, rock chip samples, and describe samples as required to enable integration into project interpretations.

  • Implement and manage drill programs (including drilling contractor) for specific programs of work.

  • Ensure data acquisition is collected at the level which could be used for inputs into future resource valuations.

  • Undertake geological, geochemical and geophysical interpretation of exploration data. Combine data sets to provide an integrated summary of project to enable evaluation of exploration potential and forward planning. Deliver outcomes in agreed time frames.

  • In conjunction with the Exploration Manager allocate funding and resources to project.

  • Ensure data management for all exploration programs, and data validation is completed in line with Exploration standards and procedures. Ensure assay data and geology is QAQC validated before results are released to Exploration Manager

  • Coach junior staff and partners and contractors as appropriate in exploration techniques and expectations - specifically mapping, core and chip logging, geochemical sampling and interpretation, assay techniques and QAQC.

  • Review commercial/technical/safety assessments of key contractors (e.g. drillers, geophysical teams, assay labs etc) and provide recommendations for improvement.

  • Utilise and make sure exploration management tools and techniques are used to convey project status and progress on a regular basis. This includes: WPA's, Tollgates, EDGE, weekly and monthly technical reporting, and periodic exploration reviews. Ensure reporting requirements are completed in agreed time frames.

  • Rank (geologically and economically) project against existing exploration projects using NEXVAL. Complete at each tollgate stage.

  • Manage commercial reporting compliance requirements (internal, external, JV) for project and ensure all are completed in agreed time frames.


TECHNICAL ACCOUNTABILITIES



  • Identify knowledge / critical gaps within existing exploration programs and, as required, use specific consultants to deliver key bodies of exploration work which will enhance project targeting and delivery.

  • Provide objective technical reviews of exploration projects.


THE REQUIREMENTS



  • Tertiary qualification - minimum BSc (Hons) Geology or equivalent and related work experience in Economic Geology with a broad understanding of mineralising systems.

  • 10-20 years of experience in mineral exploration & exploration targeting techniques

  • Experience in both Brownfield and Greenfield exploration targeting

  • Sound knowledge of the major gold provinces in the Americas

  • Orogenic, epithermal or porphyry exploration experience

  • Experience/exposure within property generation and ground selection

  • Strong data observation, evaluation, interpretation, verbal and written communication skills

  • Three-dimensional thinking skills

  • Strong knowledge of exploration targeting techniques

  • Strong safety values and leadership skills in influencing and mentoring

  • Good Leadership and people management skills

  • Enthusiasm and drive to find an orebody

  • Proactive, can do team player attitude

  • Experience with industry standard software
