Technical Advisor, Mine Operations OPP


Our client based in Francophone Africa, is recruiting for a Technical Advisor, Mine Operations OPP to oversee the on-going day to day technical and operational management of the Ore Preparation Plant (OPP). Coordinate all activities of a multidisciplinary team of operation/maintenance/environment/social engineers, technicians, and workers.

The Role
The Technical Advisor, Mine Operations OPP will report to the Manager Mine Process, the Technical Advisor, Mine Operations OPP (Ore Preparation Plant) plans, organizes, manages, and controls all OPP and laboratory related activities. He supervises the staff, plans, and organizes training for their development to a competency level capable of replacing expatriate staff. He ensures smooth and safe functioning within the OPP and laboratory in order to reach or exceed safety and operational objectives to produce high quality lateritic slurry with minimal cost.


The Responsibilities:



  • Ensure Safety and environmental compliance (Zero Injuries, etc.)

  • Manage works within the Ore Preparation Plant:


Plan, organize and follow up on OPP and Laboratory activities.
Establish standards to promote healthy, productive and cost-effective activities.
Contribute to develop annual capital and operational budgeting.
Create and develop projects aiming at the performances of the OPP operation.
Following legal requirements, seek for constructive solutions for healthy and effective practices at ore processing.
Develop and train local manpower in order to implement appropriate programs and to a competency level capable of replacing expatriate staff.
Collaborate with the Maintenance Department.
Collaborate with the Mine Exploitation.



  • Ensure supervision:


Supervise all activities related to ore preparation, including crushing, scrubbing, screening, pulping, pumping and thickening.
Supervise all laboratory activities from sampling preparation until issue of analysis results.
In charge of the annual evaluation output of the employees under his department.
Ensure procedures implementation to allow OPP and laboratory operating safely and efficiently.
Ensure follow up on procedures and policies to guarantee employees' health and safety in compliance with environmental standards.
Ensure respect of norms, regulations, standards, codes and laws enforced in mine site.



  • Elaborate and implement policies, procedures, practices and personnel training

  • Sets necessary methods and procedures to be followed and discusses with Mine Process Manager the possibility of applying lab results plant-wide

  • Conducts cost saving initiatives and draw up a report with recommendations to management approval and achieves and maintains budgeted production and cost targets

  • Involve in plant decision making by way of reviewing and monitoring process parameters

  • Plan and manage plant shutdowns to maximize time available for plant maintenance and processing jobs whilst ensuring minimal production losses

  • Provide leadership, guidance, training support to Process personnel in order to improve plant efficiency whilst adhering to Mine Standards and Legislations

  • Support the business plan process, and ensure budgets align with the intent of the HSE Policies and associated


The Requirements



  • Engineering degree in Ore Processing or Metallurgy, from a well-known institution

  • 8 to 10 years of practical experience in ore processing

  • Experience in the operation and/or project management

  • Excellent planning, organization, and supervisory skills

  • Disciplined, Methodical, hard working

  • Technical and mechanical competences for ore processing

  • Stress and time management skills

  • Effective communication skills

  • Good problem-solving skills

  • Proficiency with computing tools and database processing

  • Ability to provide regular guidance and interaction, as well as performance evaluation towards employees

  • Acute sense for health and safety at work as well as environment preservation.

  • Fluency in French and English
