Under close supervision, assist the tailings, crushed leach and water team with data collection and monitoring activities, maintenance and surveillance items, engineering projects, and support daily operations at an assigned site.

  • Performs field work and collects monitoring data.
  • Assembles data and assists with problem-solving that may require basic theories and engineering fundamentals.
  • Utilizes computer program to organize data, document field activities and develop reports.
  • Assist with activities listed in the Operations, Maintenance and Surveillance Manual
  • Assists with routine QA/QC activities for engineering projects
  • Assists with specification and procedure development and implementation
  • Assists with evaluation of equipment and material
  • Supports in maintaining accurate and current project documentation
  • Support as a member of a survey or GPS mapping crew
  • Performs other duties as requested.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
  • Skilled in safely using, maintaining, and repairing specialized equipment
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions


Preferred Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • One year experience in the mining industry
  • Aptitude for computers and/or electronics
  • Experience with vibrating wire piezometers, inclinometers, and SCADA systems
  • Knowledge of specialized equipment, methods, and techniques appropriate to assignment, including CAD, GIS/GPS mapping techniques
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions



  • This is a safety sensitive role
  • Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English
  • Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards
  • Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment
  • Work is in a mine or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see
  • Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects up to fifty (50) pounds during the course of the workday
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required.
  • Freeport-McMoRan promotes a drug/alcohol-free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment drug testing and on-going random drug testing as allowed by applicable state laws
