Senior Mechanical Engineer - Building Services Seattle


A multidisciplinary engineering and design firm is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their Seattle-based team. This is a key opportunity for an experienced HVAC professional to lead and mentor junior staff, contribute to complex building design projects, and play a critical role in quality assurance and technical delivery.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Lead, mentor, and support junior mechanical engineers and designers
  • Serve in a "responsible charge" capacity for design and quality deliverables
  • Conduct QA/QC reviews of design documents, specifications, and calculations
  • Ensure code compliance and technical excellence across HVAC systems
  • Develop and edit basis of design narratives and project documentation
  • Perform life-cycle cost analyses and energy/cost modeling
  • Select and evaluate HVAC equipment, including chillers, boilers, air terminals, and DX systems
  • Write specifications, develop control sequences, and modify control diagrams
  • Attend contractor meetings during bid phases and provide technical clarifications
  • Evaluate cost estimates and assess value engineering options
  • Apply risk management practices to mitigate project exposure
  • Monitor and manage work plans across multiple projects and guide team resources
  • Conduct site visits to oversee progress and resolve issues within time and budget


Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum 8 years of HVAC design experience
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Experience with mission critical (healthcare), data center, or telecom projects preferred but not required
  • Proven background in building mechanical systems design
