POSITION PURPOSE Reporting to the Senior Mine Engineer, the Mine Engineer - Drill and Blast is primarily responsible for designing and optimizing drill patterns, timing, and loading of blasts. REPORTING TO: Senior Mine Engineer COLLABORATING WITH (Key departments, External Groups): Internal: Work primarily with Mine Technical Services, Mine Operations. External: Work with Drilling and Blasting Contractors PEOPLE REPORTING TO THIS POSITION (Name of Position): N/A POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES Manage and ensure all employees and contractors are working in compliance with all Pinto Valley Mine and MSHA safety guidelines and procedures. Ensure all activities are compliant with Company policies and procedures, federal and state regulations as well as local regulatory agencies. Strong collaboration and communication of plans and designs with various stakeholders. Design drill patterns. Design the timing and loading of blasts. Review performance of blasts and adjust & optimize future patterns. Work with short range planning to ensure adequate drill patterns are designed and ready for executions by mine operations. Work with blasting contractor on continuous improvement projects to improve performance and lower costs. Work with drilling operations to ensure design compliance is met. Develop and track weekly and monthly KPIs to asses performance. Regular field visits with stakeholders to measure progress and quality of work. Plan, budget, communicate, and coordinate to meet goals in a safe and efficient manner. Responsible for but not limited to all tasks/duties assigned or required. POSITION REQUIREMENTS Knowledge 2 to 5 years of mining experience. Mine Engineering degree or similar. Knowledge of drill-blast-load-haul open pit mining sequence is preferred. Prior experience in a copper operation strongly preferred. Key Competencies / Skills Experience with MineStar or similar fleet management system. Experience with SAP or similar purchasing program. Prior exposure to mine planning software (Vulcan, Minesight) is preferred. Prior exposure to blast loading and timing software (ViewShot, Delta E) is preferred. Strong computer skills with Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.) Strong attention to detail. Quick learner with proactive mindset. Proven ability to identify problems and devise solutions. Excellent communication, analytical, management and problem-solving skills are required. Ability to speak, comprehend, read, and write English fluently. WORK ENVIRONMENT This role is generally 80% office environment and 20% field environment. Must have ability to stand and walk for short durations, including walking up and down stairs and across uneven surfaces. Must have ability to kneel, crawl, stoop, and squat, occasionally in confined spaces.
