Summary:

The Senior Process Engineer position will be the primary contact for supporting process development of medical ultrasound transducers to ensure all products meet manufacturability, cost, performance, and reliability requirements. Heavy emphasis on hands-on preparation and processing along with technique development for creating transducer acoustic stacks/arrays of various configurations for leading edge acoustic designs. Works day-to-day with technicians to assist in planning, directing, and tracking experimental activities. Ensures accurate tracking and timely reporting of sample status. Performs material characterization for adhesion of critical interfaces using epoxies, primers, etc for all relevant joining methods. Evaluates stack and materials properties using optical microscopy and other analytical tools.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Develop and sustain ultrasound transducer manufacturing processes
  • Debug manufacturing processes and equipment via root cause analysis
  • Develop and update engineering documents such as process maps, process FMEA, Manufacturing/Quality Instructions, test methods, drawings, and test reports
  • Collaborate with the Manufacturing and Operations teams to identify capabilities and capacity
  • Collaborate with the Engineering team for fixturing design and development, tolerancing, and design for manufacturing
  • Collaborate with tooling design teams (MIM, Stamping, Molding, etc.)
  • Investigate new tooling, materials, manufacturing processes, and technologies
  • Help manage the transfer designs from Development into Manufacturing.
  • Seek continuous improvement in manufacturing of all transducer products using quality system tools (PFMEA, DOE, CAR, etc.)
  • Understand, set-up, use and interpret design of experiments (DOE) and statistical process control (SPC) data.
  • Research and qualify new suppliers and vendors

Knowledge/Experience:

  • B.S. or M.S in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Materials Science, Biomedical or materials related experience w/ technical degree.
  • Three to five years' experience in process development in the manufacturing of devices (preferably medical) requiring a high degree of traceability and documentation.
  • Experience with manufacturing equipment and processes
  • Broad background in surface science, materials engineering, and precision assembly techniques desired. Experience with piezo-ceramic and advanced polymers are a plus.
  • Working knowledge of the following process technologies and associated equipment is a plus: precision machining, dicing, metallization, soldering, PCBA fabrication and epoxy curing
  • Experience in collecting experimental data and using statistical analysis to make decisions. A good working knowledge using JMP, Minitab or similar programs
  • Background or experience with transducer and medical ultrasound physics is a plus.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate both orally and in written reports.
  • Must be able to work fast-paced small team environment under minimal supervision.

Salary and Benefits:

  • $97,000 - $130,000 depending on experience + variable bonus opportunity
