Senior Mechanical Engineer

JSG is recruiting for a skilled mechanical engineer to join our highly valued oil and gas client in Duluth, MN, on a long-term contract opportunity, Monday-Friday, 40/hrs. per week. If you or anyone you may know has further interest, please don't hesitate to apply now.

Job Summary:

Focus is on achieving general objectives, incumbents are expected to work independently and manage their time, approach to technical problems, and work priorities. Problems solved by applying standard procedures, modifications of standard procedures, or using methods developed in previous assignments. Atypical or specialized problems may be referred for senior technical assistance or review.

Communication may be written or verbal and typically consists of the collection and relay of standard technical facts and analysis of business implications.


The role may also be required to communicate technical topics to a non-technical audience.

Here's what you will do:

    • Ensure that all compressor stations and metering facilities are designed in accordance with all regulations, applicable industry codes and corporate standards.
    • Define the scope, schedule, and budget for the design and materials for compressor station and metering facility projects.
    • Manage the execution of the design deliverables by a third-party engineering firm against the project budget and schedule.
    • Review and approve design deliverables, for example drawings, technical reports and material listing sheets.
    • Participate in design review meeting with engineering firm, Project Manager, Operations, and Construction personnel to discuss the scope, design, and expected performance as well as work out constructability issues.
    • Review vendor materials quotations, prepares technical evaluations, and recommends selections based on technical merit along with price and delivery. For example: gas compression equipment, vessels, buildings, generators, pipe, valves and fittings.
    • Review lessons learned from past projects and incorporate recommendations into future designs.
    • Support department initiatives as required.


Who you are:

    • You have:
      • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Civil, or other related Engineering field.
      • 7+ years of Engineering experience.
      • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • You can:
      • Work independently, managing multiple projects and prioritizing tasks accordingly.
      • Problem solve through use of standards, modification of standards and/or previous experience.
      • Effectively communicate technical issues and impacts to other technical and non-technical staff.
    • The following are considered assets:
      • 7 - 10 years of natural gas design experience for compressor station and metering facilities.


Working Conditions:

    • 80% of work is office-based working with multiple project teams.
    • 20% of time is in the field scoping projects or supporting procurement, construction, and commissioning activities.
    • Time-sensitive deliverables.
