Position Summary: Mechanical engineer with data skills for designing, developing, and supporting objectives of Innovation and R&D department. The role is a combination of designing mechanical solutions to solve complex system problems that simplify and elevate our customers' experience and using data science to build generic reusable, repeatable platforms where behavior is defined and controlled by math models.

Role qualifications:

  • Must have the ability to focus on Company quality and play an active role in reaching continuous improvement objectives.
  • Focus on design and development.

Responsibilities:

  • Design mechanical products for global automation applied across a broad range of applications including welding, AGV's, cutting and general industrial automation.
  • Fluid and thermal dynamic modelling
  • Model kinematics of articulating assemblies
  • Understand how to harvest, clean and mine sensor data to establish insight to what the data is indicating to enable creation of models to manage behavior
  • Application of statistical tools and techniques as needed in design and performance validation.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with ability to create scalable solutions that may be applied broader group of products.
  • Take ownership of assigned projects and product development within department
  • Working closely with managers, engineers, manufacturing, technicians, and vendors as needed to meet quality, reliability & cost expectations for new designs.
  • Conduct lab and performance testing working with technicians and providing them with written and verbal guidance.
  • Suggest, approve, define materials and select vendor parts.
  • Verification of designs for safety, functionality, and robustness
  • MTBF analysis
  • Highly organized and self-motivated with ability to work within a team environment of which many are remote.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (master's preferred) with minimum 10 years' experience of product development in manufacturing environment
  • Proficient in computer aided design (CAD) & analysis
  • Statistical Tools and Techniques, Design of Experiments, Failure Mode Analysis
  • Knowledge of engineering instrumentation to support data harvesting and mining.
  • Experience of designing miniature mechanical solutions
  • Ability to use SQL, Python & Minitab as needed.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical manufacturing processes
