As we continue to grow, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Electrical Engineer- Hardware Design to join our dynamic team. As a key member of our engineering department, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing electronic hardware components and systems for a range of innovative projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electronic hardware design, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality solutions in a fast-paced environment.

In this role, you will provide both leadership and support to military and commercial projects for the Aviation Power business. These fast-paced projects involve developing new electronic assemblies and magnetics for GE Avionics customers and are essential to growth of the Power and Hybrid Electric business areas.

At GE Aviation in Dayton, OH the EPISCenter is the headquarters for all of Aviation Power Engineering. At this facility you have an opportunity to put your engineering training and skills to use. Our Engineers are focused and challenged on developing new technologies and delivering state of the art products such as Hybrid Electric aircraft, the latest military platforms, and SiC technology to name a few. Plus, if you like hands-on work, there is also a 155,000 sq ft lab that includes 6 high power test cells totaling 15 MW, an EMI chamber, an electronics lab, a rapid build prototype lab, and a real time simulator lab with all the latest equipment.

Job Description

Role & Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of electronic hardware systems, including schematic capture, PCB layout, and component selection.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including software engineers, mechanical engineers, and project managers, to define requirements and ensure seamless integration of hardware components.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and provide technical guidance for new product development initiatives.
  • Perform thorough testing and validation of hardware designs, including prototype bring-up, debugging, and compliance testing.
  • Develop and maintain design documentation, including schematics, bill of materials (BOM), and design verification test (DVT) reports.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize design processes and enhance product performance and reliability.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies, and evaluate their potential impact on future hardware designs.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership and guidance as needed.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 15 years of experience of relevant electrical design experience)
  • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in electrical hardware design
  • This role requires use of technical data subject to U.S. Government contract restrictions and this posting is only for U.S. Citizens. GE will require proof of status.

Desired Characteristics

  • Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related degree from an accredited university or college.
  • Proficiency in schematic capture and PCB layout tools such as Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro, or similar.
  • Power electronics experience.
  • FPGA VHDL design.
  • Experience with high reliability electronic systems design.
  • Magnetic components knowledge.
  • Lab hands-on experience.
  • Strong understanding of signal integrity, power integrity, and EMC/EMI considerations in high-speed digital and mixed-signal designs.
  • Experience with simulation tools such as SPICE, SI/PI simulation, and FPGA design tools is highly desirable.
  • Hands-on experience with lab equipment for debugging and testing hardware prototypes, including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and spectrum analyzers.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and compliance requirements for electronic hardware design, such as FCC, CE, and RoHS.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
