Job Description:

Direct and control Grasberg Mine Development and pre-production operations including manpower and equipment to achieve the necessary development goals to bring the Grasberg Block Cave Mine (GBC) on line, in accordance with established schedules and budgets in a safe and efficient manner and in compliance with the company’s policies, procedures, goals and objectives.


Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Direct, communicate and control company’s safety, health and environmental policies and procedures implementation, including: conducting safety meeting in order to promote subordinate’s awareness of safety and environmental issues; especially when working in an underground (UG) mine environment, which has inherently high risk and limited space.

  2. Direct and control development activities including: horizontal development, pre-production work and vertical development to ensure that they are executed in a safe and efficient manner and to ensure that the UG production targets are achieved and are in compliance with the determined plan from the Grasberg Engineering Department.

  3. Direct and control Grasberg Block Cave Mine Development Staff to ensure that they are aware of safety, production equipment performance and the affected operational costs.

  4. Direct and control the application of advanced technology to improve the operational processes; including the development of global risk analyses on the implementation to prevent the disturbance to other production processes.

  5. Develop and initiate a strategic plan to support the Grasberg Block Cave Mine production plan in line with the GBC Mine Engineering long-term plan.

  6. Manage and control the assigned development budget to prevent over-budget expenditures and ensure that the unit cost targets are achieved.

  7. Manage and control communication and information linking the various projects that constitute the development of a new mine in such a manner as to prevent misunderstandings that can impact the ability to meet start of production commitments.

  8. Establish and maintain relationships with major internal departments (Engineering, Maintenance, Production, Construction, Deputy Technical Manager, etc.) and external departments (PSU, Safety, Material Management, PTRI, etc.) to keep and ensure a good safety record, achieve development targets, optimize equipment utilization and identify potentials for adverse effects of external impacts and other support requirements within the development organization.

  9. Develop, monitor, motivate, and appraise performance and potential capabilities of subordinates to contribute to the development of a professional team.
