We have a current opportunity for a Staff Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Goleta, CA. In this role you will report to the Design Engineering Group Manager and be part of a project team working on various design tasks, including 3D modeling and drawing generation. Responsibilities

• Create 3D solid models using SolidWorks CAD software in support of new and existing space flight programs
• Apply engineering principles to ensure that designed components and systems meet all requirements such as structural integrity, structural properties, interface boundaries and mass
• Create, maintain, and release component, assembly, and layout drawings compliant with ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards. Utilize SolidWorks PDM system to maintain configuration control
• Proactively interface with multi-disciplinary team members to optimize component and system designs that meet all technical, cost and schedule requirements
• Utilize hardware-based techniques to perform research and development, iterate on design concepts, correlate engineering models, and develop manufacturing processes and procedures
• Generate technical documentation, reporting and presentations of design, test, and analysis results

Ideal Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering or other related degree with 8 or more years' of relevant expereince
• Experience working with design, manufacture and verification of electromechanical systems and composite structures
• Experienced with SolidWorks PDM or CAD
• Experienced with GD&T per ASME Y14.5 along with tolerance analysis capabilities
• Ability to travel - an average of 10-15% travel may be required. Most of the travel is local but some overnight travel may be required.
• US Citizenship Required, with the ability to obtain a DOD security clearance

Desired Skills

• 10 or more years' experience in space industry, including developing, building, and testing space flight hardware
• Self-motivated in applying engineering principles, concepts, and practices of mechanical / aerospace engineering to independently perform assignments
• Experience with space mechanism design and aerospace guidelines such as GSFC-STD-7000A (GEVS), AIAA S-, NASA-STD-5017, MMPDS, etc.
• Experience with Thermal Desktop, NASTRAN or ANSYS is a plus
• Proficient with Microsoft Office 365
• Strong attention to detail with advanced verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to produce "completed staff work"
