Job Summary

Homeland has partnered with a leader in the design, construction, and operation of specialized and complex research and development facilities. These include wind tunnels (used in aerospace, automotive, and motorsports), rocket test stands, climatic chambers, jet engine test cells, acoustic chambers, altitude test facilities, captive trajectory systems, and nuclear facilities.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and collaborative environment, where you'll often work on several unique designs at once. We're seeking a Senior Mechanical Process Engineer to lead and manage multidisciplinary projects-ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and aligned with client expectations. The ideal candidate is a self-driven professional with a minimum of 8 years of progressive design experience.


Responsibilities

  • Lead project teams in developing new designs for process systems supporting automotive and aerospace research and test facilities
  • Take ownership of technical performance, including scheduling and budget management for assigned work
  • Independently plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate engineering work, adapting or modifying techniques and procedures as needed
  • Analyze work features and apply sound engineering principles and practices
  • Review results from assigned tasks and from junior engineers to ensure completeness, accuracy, and proper documentation
  • Develop technical reports and presentations for project managers and clients
  • Check and verify the work of others for completeness and accuracy
  • Lead and mentor junior engineers
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams including structural, machine design, controls and instrumentation, and aerodynamics/fluid dynamics engineers
  • Size and specify piping/ducting systems and components; select compressors, pumps, fans, valves, flow measurement, and fluid conditioning equipment
  • Designing
  • High-pressure cryogenic and pneumatic piping systems
  • High-temperature systems including steam systems
  • Refrigeration, vacuum, and fuel systems
  • Specialty HVAC systems and components
  • Work in a fast-paced environment, meeting deadlines while maintaining high quality standards
  • Support the Project Manager in ongoing design efforts
  • Participate in internal and external meetings and design reviews with team members and clients
  • Gather data, interview stakeholders, conduct studies, perform calculations, and prepare rough layouts/sketches as needed
  • Provide installation support and supervision, coordinating with suppliers, subcontractors, and other trades both from the office and on-site
  • Create engineering calculations and specifications; oversee the creation of engineering drawings
  • Travel as needed for design reviews, factory acceptance testing, construction support, and startup/commissioning activities
  • Contribute to proposal development and marketing efforts
  • Perform field work, including climbing on test stands and working around operational machinery
  • Work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team to meet project schedules and budgets



Requirements

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited engineering school
  • Minimum of 8 years of engineering experience
  • Prior design experience with process systems, including piping and thermal conditioning
  • Strong understanding of process systems and components such as pumps, valves, heat exchangers, chillers, and rotating machinery
  • Design experience, including layout of process drawings and technical specifications
  • Experience with field installation and troubleshooting of process systems
  • Familiarity with relevant codes and standards, including ASME B311, B313, and ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code
  • Solid foundation in thermodynamics, fluid flow (compressible and incompressible), thermal sciences, and mechanical process systems
  • Experience managing scope, schedule, and budget for individual projects
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Preferred experience with engineering software tools such as AutoCAD, 3D modeling software, AutoPIPE, Caesar II, Mathcad, Creo, and AFT
  • Strong mechanical and process engineering analytical skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated and able to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to lead and contribute effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment
  • High ethical standards, a commitment to continuous learning, and a team-first mindset
  • US Citizenship required due to federal work requirements
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
