Job Title: Lighting Specialist 3 / Electrical Engineer

Location: Montgomery, AL

Work Schedule: Hybrid - 2 days in-person / 3 days remote (self-managed schedule)

Education: must have a Bachelor's, ideally a Master's in in electrical engineering, architectural engineering from an ABET ABET-certified school

Required PPE: Hard hat, reflective vest, and safety glasses



Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly experienced Lighting Specialist (Level 3) to join our team in Montgomery, AL. This senior-level position is ideal for lighting professionals with 10 to 15 years of experience who are ready to take ownership of lighting design leadership, technical consulting, and client engagement across diverse environments. This hybrid role offers flexibility, with a primarily self-directed schedule consisting of two on-site days and three remote workdays per week.

The Lighting Specialist will play a pivotal role in leading complex lighting design projects while maintaining compliance with evolving standards, providing technical insight, and guiding energy-efficient solutions. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in lighting technologies, photometric analysis, and cross-functional project collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead lighting design projects across commercial, industrial, and residential sectors, ensuring creative, functional, and efficient outcomes.
  • Perform technical design work, including fixture layouts, photometric calculations, and system specifications.
  • Evaluate and select lighting products, control systems, and energy-saving technologies such as LEDs, daylight harvesting, and occupancy sensors.
  • Conduct site visits and inspections to verify installation compliance, resolve field issues, and refine solutions.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including design drawings, specifications, reports, and as-builts.
  • Ensure regulatory and code compliance, staying up to date with NEC, IESNA, and other applicable standards.
  • Collaborate closely with clients and project teams, translating lighting goals into actionable and innovative solutions.
  • Mentor junior staff and coordinate efforts with engineers, designers, and construction teams.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related field
  • 10-15 years of hands-on experience in lighting design or related engineering roles
  • Proficient with lighting design and photometric software (e.g., AGi32, DIALux, Visual, Revit)
  • Strong knowledge of lighting systems, including LEDs, control systems, and energy-efficient practices
  • Proven ability to manage projects, lead teams, and maintain documentation throughout design cycles
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently and with multi-disciplinary teams
  • Demonstrated history of successful project delivery in technical and client-facing roles
