Job Description:

Our Purpose:

Created by a team of busy parents, professionals, cooks, and food-lovers who care about what we eat, how we live, and where our food comes from, Gardyn designs and develops high density, intelligent, plug-n-play vertical gardens for the cultivation of top-quality produce anywhere, all year, and in any climate.

Featured as TIME'S Invention of the Year, our indoor vertical Gardyns improve lifestyle, health, and the environment by providing tasty, affordable, nutritious greens and fruits without sacrificing design, space, or resources. With already producing over 2 million pounds of Gardyn produce with no pesticide, no waste and 95% less water, we are here to help shape the future of food by leveraging new technologies, for less impact on the environment and giving access to healthy, tasty, nutritious food to all.

Gardyn's Culture:

  • Radical Candor: It is not about being right or wrong or saving face. What we care most about is to make the right decisions for the company.
  • Freedom and Responsibility: Everybody at Gardyn is an adult and should be able to make the best decisions on their own with the best interest of the company in mind.
  • Impact: We want to move the needle big time in everything we do, on the way the company is working, our business, our customers.
  • Transparency and Collaboration: We care deeply for our customers, our colleagues, and for all that we are doing, how and why. It is not about ourselves; it is about what we want to accomplish as an organization.

The Opportunity: We're looking for an Electrical Engineer to lead the design and development of high-performance, reliable electronic systems for our connected consumer products. This role is instrumental in ensuring our products meet the highest standards for innovation, quality, and customer experience. You'll work hands-on with hardware, firmware, sensors, LEDs, and connectivity modules to drive excellence from concept through manufacturing and beyond. This is a hybrid role requiring at least 2-3 days per week in the office. Proximity to physical products and test equipment is essential to success in this position. You'll have direct access to new and returned products for analysis, testing, and iteration.

To nail your job, you will:

Design & Development

  • Design, prototype, and test electronic systems, including PCB layouts, hardware components, and embedded firmware.
  • Integrate sensors, microcontrollers, wireless communication modules, and power systems into scalable product platforms.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with firmware, software, mechanical, and manufacturing teams.

Certification & Compliance

  • Manage third-party certification processes and ensure all products comply with relevant industry regulations.
  • Develop and execute qualification testing protocols for components and full systems (normal use, abuse, accelerated testing).

Product Lifecycle Management

  • Lead root cause analysis and resolve issues across development and production stages.
  • Analyze customer feedback and field data to improve reliability and performance.
  • Perform FMEAs and other risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential issues early.

Manufacturing Readiness

  • Partner with manufacturing teams to ensure smooth transition from prototype to production, focusing on DFM and DFA principles.
  • Maintain robust product documentation, including schematics, BOMs, test reports, and regulatory filings.

Innovation & Research

  • Identify emerging technologies and trends to strengthen our product roadmap.
  • Develop proof-of-concept prototypes and new features that enhance product value and customer satisfaction.

We'll love you because:

  • You have a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Master's preferred).
  • You have 5+ years of experience designing electronics for consumer products.
  • You have strong knowledge of circuit design, firmware integration, and product qualification testing.
  • You have familiarity with IoT systems, BLE/Wi-Fi communication, and LED technology.
  • You are proficient with failure analysis tools (FMEA, fault tree analysis, etc.).
  • You have excellent project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives in a fast-paced environment.
  • You are a self-starter who takes ownership and thrives in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
  • You have strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
  • You are comfortable balancing both strategic thinking and hands-on execution.
  • You are team-oriented, adaptable, and open to feedback and collaboration.
  • You have strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
  • The Gardyn culture resonates strongly with you.

You'll love us because:

  • We encourage unconventional thinking.
  • We are paving the path for innovation in home-grown food and education.
  • We are creating a movement bigger than ourselves that will positively enhance people's lives.
  • We practice radical candor and encourage employees to be authentic and transparent when communicating with all internal employees as well as external vendor relationships.
  • We lead with context not control and let you determine the best ways to accomplish your goals.
  • We are a wicked smart yet humble team.
  • Egos are not welcome here.
  • Gardyn embodies the start-up culture with the success to back it up.
  • Come prepared to work in a highly adaptable, fast-paced environment.
