Job Title: Senior HVAC (Air-side) Mechanical Engineer, PE

Location: San Jose, CA


Position Summary


We seek a highly experienced and licensed Senior HVAC Mechanical Engineer (Air-side) to lead the design, coordination, and delivery of air-side mechanical systems on large-scale commercial projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical design and construction background, project leadership, and a deep understanding of air-side HVAC systems, including AHUs, VAVs, duct work distribution, air filtration, and cleanroom ventilation.


Key Responsibilities


  • Lead the air-side mechanical engineering design on complex commercial and institutional projects from concept through construction.
  • Perform load calculations, system sizing, equipment selection, and airflow analysis.
  • Develop and review mechanical design drawings, specifications, and submittals.
  • Collaborate with internal project managers, BIM teams, drafters, and field supervisors to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Provide technical support during the bidding, construction, and commissioning phases.
  • Interface with clients, consultants, and contractors to provide solutions and drive value-engineering efforts.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support staff, promoting technical excellence and knowledge sharing.


Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in California (required).
  • Minimum 8 years of HVAC mechanical engineering experience, focusing on air-side systems in commercial construction.
  • In-depth knowledge of HVAC design principles, duct work distribution, air balancing, and energy efficiency strategies.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, and mechanical design tools (e.g., Trane Trace, HAP).
  • Strong knowledge of local building codes, Title 24, ASHRAE standards, and LEED principles.
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented construction environment.
