This role requires a strong foundation in mechanical engineering principles, a deep understanding of boat systems, and the ability to work collaboratively with other teams to deliver high-quality vessels.

Key Responsibilities:

Design & Development:

  • Design and engineer mechanical systems and components used in boat construction, including propulsion systems, steering mechanisms, HVAC systems, plumbing, and auxiliary machinery.
  • Create detailed mechanical design plans, including CAD models, system schematics, and technical specifications.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineers and other design teams to integrate mechanical systems into the overall boat design.
  • Ensure that designs meet performance, safety, and regulatory standards.

Materials & Manufacturing:

  • Select appropriate materials for mechanical components and systems to ensure strength, durability, and resistance to marine environments (e.g., corrosion-resistant materials).
  • Work with production team to ensure proper fabrication, assembly, and installation of mechanical systems and components.
  • Conduct material testing and quality control to ensure that the materials used meet the required standards.

Installation & Commissioning:

  • Oversee the installation of mechanical systems and components on boats, ensuring proper alignment, functionality, and integration with other systems.
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure the seamless installation of mechanical systems during the boat construction process.

Troubleshooting & Maintenance:

  • Provide technical support during the troubleshooting and maintenance of mechanical systems onboard boats.
  • Diagnose mechanical failures and perform repairs or recommend solutions to improve system performance and reliability.
  • Develop maintenance schedules and procedures to ensure the proper upkeep of mechanical systems throughout the boat's lifecycle.

Compliance & Safety:

  • Ensure that all mechanical designs, systems, and installations comply with relevant safety regulations, industry standards, and maritime certifications (e.g., ABS, DNV-GL, SOLAS).
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including design reports, maintenance logs, and safety manuals.

Project Management:

  • Support project planning and execution, ensuring that mechanical engineering tasks are completed on schedule and within budget.
  • Monitor the progress of mechanical systems integration, address issues as they arise, and ensure that quality standards are met.
  • Collaborate with project managers, clients, and stakeholders to ensure that project specifications and requirements are met.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Stay updated with the latest trends and technologies in mechanical engineering and the boat building industry.
  • Identify opportunities for improving mechanical systems, enhancing energy efficiency, and reducing costs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with a focus on boat or marine vessel design and construction.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, including engines, propulsion systems, HVAC, plumbing, and auxiliary machinery used in boats.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar) for mechanical design and modeling.
  • Familiarity with boat-building materials and techniques (e.g., composites, metals, fiberglass).
  • Strong understanding of marine industry standards, regulations, and safety codes (e.g., ABS, DNV-GL, SOLAS).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical issues.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality and safety.

Physical Demands:
