Job Description:

Job Title: Senior Closures Structures Engineer

Location: Southfield, MI

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and driven Senior Closures Structures Engineer to lead the design, development, and integration of Closures systems and sub-systems. This role focuses on Closures Structures (doors, hoods, liftgates, decklids, etc.) and requires an in-depth understanding of structure design, materials, manufacturing processes, and vehicle integration. The ideal candidate will bring a hands-on, first-principles engineering mindset, and thrive in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the structural design and integration of Closures systems from concept to production, ensuring performance, quality, and cost targets are met.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with design, manufacturing, and validation teams to define and deliver Class A surface-compatible, manufacturable designs.
  • Utilize 3D CAD (preferably CATIA V5/V6) to model parts and assemblies, driving the development of robust, lightweight Closures structures.
  • Own and manage system-level DFMEA, DVP&R, and interface requirements with body-in-white and adjacent systems.
  • Select appropriate materials and joining methods (e.g., castings, stampings, extrusions, welding, adhesives) for structural integrity, manufacturability, and cost optimization.
  • Conduct engineering change management and release processes to maintain design control through all product development phases.
  • Support and lead prototype builds and hands-on assembly, validating design intent and root-causing build or fit issues.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and internal teams for technology selection, cost analysis, and feasibility reviews.
  • Utilize simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, OptiStruct, ADAMS) in collaboration with CAE teams to validate structural performance.
  • Apply first-principles problem-solving to diagnose complex mechanical challenges and deliver innovative, production-ready solutions.
