Switchgear Electrical Engineer - Power Generation Systems


We are hiring a Switchgear Electrical Engineer to join a growing team at a new manufacturing facility in Clearfield, UT. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on designing medium voltage switchgear systems used in power generation enclosures.


This opportunity is with a well-established manufacturer of custom acoustic enclosures for power generators, expanding its capabilities to include integrated switchgear design.


Location: On-site Clearfield, UT

Employment Type: Full-time, Exempt

Reports to: Engineering Manager


Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of experience designing switchgear or medium voltage electrical systems (600V - 38kV)
  • Strong knowledge of power distribution, protection schemes, and industry standards (UL891, ANSI, IEEE, NEC)
  • Proficiency with electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or similar)
  • Experience integrating switchgear into power generation systems is a plus
  • Familiarity with acoustic or mechanical enclosure constraints preferred


Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop switchgear systems for use in generator enclosures, from concept to production
  • Create electrical schematics, layout drawings, and bill of materials
  • Select appropriate components, including circuit breakers, relays, transformers, and protective devices
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes and safety standards
  • Collaborate with mechanical, production, and installation teams to ensure system integration and manufacturability
  • Provide technical support for system testing, troubleshooting, and customer documentation
  • Assist in developing standard practices
