Principal Electrical Engineer - Clean Energy Systems
Location: Tustin Full-Time Renewable Energy Sector
Design the power systems that will drive the energy transition.
We're looking for a Principal Electrical Engineer to lead the design and implementation of cutting-edge clean energy systems - from utility-scale solar PV and battery storage to EV charging infrastructure and microgrids. You'll own the full engineering lifecycle, shape grid-interconnected solutions, and work on high-impact projects that power schools, cities, and businesses with clean energy.
If you're a licensed California PE with deep experience in electrical systems and a passion for sustainability, we want to hear from you.
What You'll Do
- Lead the design of solar PV, battery storage, off-grid microgrids, and EV charging systems.
- Develop full construction drawing sets, including single-line and three-line diagrams, in compliance with NEC, IEEE, and utility interconnection requirements.
- Perform interconnection studies, prepare application packages, and create dynamic system models.
- Conduct power system studies, including load flow, arc flash, short circuit, harmonic analysis, and protective device coordination.
- Visit job sites to assess electrical infrastructure and identify optimal ESS, PV, and EVCS installation locations.
- Manage vendor relationships and integrate innovative DER technologies into scalable solutions.
- Collaborate with clients, utilities, and contractors to resolve RFIs, code issues, and design changes.
- Write compelling technical reports and proposals that explain complex energy solutions in simple terms.
- Ensure every design complies with safety codes and aligns with client, jurisdictional, and utility standards.
What You Bring
- California PE license (Required)
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in power distribution, utility interconnection, or DER systems
- Expertise in system design for solar PV, energy storage, EV infrastructure, and/or microgrids
- Strong knowledge of electrical codes and utility interconnection procedures
- Experience using ETAP, SKM, or similar tools for power studies and system modeling
- Familiarity with developing bills of material, equipment specs, and routing plans
- Ability to balance big-picture vision with technical depth and attention to detail
- Exceptional communication skills to engage with clients, regulators, and cross-functional teams
Why Join Us?
- Help accelerate the shift to clean energy by working on large-scale, high-visibility projects.
