Position Summary
The Director of Transportation Engineering will lead the transportation design engineering department, providing strategic direction and overseeing the delivery of complex infrastructure projects. This is a high-impact leadership role focused on technical excellence, client development, and team management. The ideal candidate will bring deep transportation design experience, strong project delivery skills, and the ability to inspire and grow a high-performing team.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership for the transportation engineering department.
- Oversee the planning, design, and execution of transportation infrastructure projects.
- Ensure project delivery is on-time, on-budget, and in compliance with applicable standards.
- Lead, mentor, and develop engineering, design, and project management staff.
- Serve as project director on high-profile assignments and multidisciplinary initiatives.
- Maintain strong client relationships and support business development efforts.
- Provide technical leadership on engineering design issues.
- Ensure rigorous quality assurance and control across all project deliverables.
- Stay informed of emerging trends, tools, and regulatory changes in transportation engineering.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required.
- Minimum 15 years of progressive experience in transportation design engineering.
- Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D, OpenRoads, and MicroStation.
- Strong knowledge of state DOT standards and processes, especially ODOT and/or INDOT.
- Demonstrated success managing large-scale infrastructure projects and multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong communication and client-facing skills with a proven ability to lead and inspire.
