SENIOR MECHANICAL ENGINEER FAIRFAX, VA


SETTY & Associates is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with 10+ years of experience to join our Fairfax, VA office. This senior-level position requires a driven and technically skilled engineer who can lead mechanical design efforts from concept through construction, mentor junior staff, and serve as a trusted representative of our firm in client and team settings.


We are looking for a self-starter who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and brings both technical expertise and leadership capability to every project.


Key Responsibilities

Independently manage and execute all phases of mechanical design, including conceptual studies, detailed design, engineering calculations, and construction documentation


Lead HVAC load calculations, system sizing and selection, specification writing, and energy code compliance


Provide design oversight, QA/QC review, and mentorship for junior engineers and designers


Respond to RFIs, review shop drawings and submittals, conduct site observations, and support construction administration activities


Prepare and manage punch lists and project closeout documentation


Interface with clients, project teams, and contractors as a lead mechanical engineer and trusted advisor


Contribute to technical standards and innovation initiatives within the mechanical team


Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (required)


10+ years of mechanical/HVAC design experience in the AEC industry (required)


Professional Engineer (PE) license required


Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit (required)


Strong understanding of HVAC design principles, psychrometrics, and mechanical codes


Prior experience in markets such as federal, healthcare, laboratory, or pharmaceutical facilities preferred


LEED accreditation is a plus


Excellent verbal and written communication skills


Proven leadership experience and the ability to manage tasks and staff on multiple concurrent projects


Highly motivated, adaptable, and capable of working both independently and as part of a team
