Overview
A privately held industrial manufacturing plant is seeking a hands-on Electrical Engineer to support and optimize electrical systems within a process-intensive production environment. This is a field-facing, operations-driven role requiring direct involvement in troubleshooting, maintenance, and improvement of electrical and automation systems. The role is part of a collaborative maintenance and engineering team and is vital to plant reliability and safety.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain high-voltage and low-voltage electrical systems, including transformers, MCCs, switchgear, and motor controls
- Hands-on troubleshooting of PLCs, DCS, VFDs, and industrial automation equipment
- Perform arc flash analysis, power load calculations, and root cause analysis of electrical failures
- Read and interpret P&ID diagrams, electrical schematics, and technical documentation
Process & Operations Support
- Support 24/7 production by ensuring electrical systems are optimized for reliability and safety
- Collaborate with maintenance and production to reduce downtime and improve power system efficiency
- Apply preventive and predictive maintenance (PM/PdM) strategies using CMMS tools
Project & Compliance Work
- Assist with capital projects, electrical system upgrades, and plant expansions
- Ensure all electrical work complies with OSHA, NEC, NFPA 70E, and other safety standards
- Maintain detailed documentation and support internal audits and safety protocols
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- 5+ years of hands-on electrical maintenance experience in a heavy industrial or process-manufacturing setting
- Experience with power distribution systems, transformers, switchgear, MCCs
- Advanced troubleshooting knowledge of Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or Honeywell PLCs/DCS
- Proficiency in using a CMMS system for maintenance tracking
- Willingness to work irregular hours, including on-call, weekends, or holidays as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in pulp & paper, chemical processing, or other continuous operations plants
- PE License, CMRP, or ISA CCST certification
- Union experience
