- Education: BS in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics (this is a hard requirement)

This position has a strong focus on precision engineering:
- Strong understanding of precision engineering principles
- Experience designing and building precision motion systems.
Scope of Position:
• A senior mechanical design engineer responsible for providing detailed mechanical designs of precision motion systems and custom precision tooling or fixturing.
Responsible for all aspects of the design, build and debug of equipment including vendor management.
• Hands-on mechanical support for the installation, start-up and debug of fiber/connector manufacturing process equipment. This includes working with a multi-functional team (mechanical, electrical, controls, facilities, IT, operations, etc.)
• Involves the application of mechanical principles encompassed in mechanics, hydraulics, thermodynamics, metallurgy, and machine design used for the design, production, operation, and use of machinery of all types.
Requirements:
• 10+ years of mechanical equipment design experience
• Proficient with SolidWorks
• Strong understanding of precision engineering principles
• Experience designing and building precision motion systems.
• Competent with structural FEA analysis
• Experience with design, install, start-up and debug of robust mechanical equipment suitable for the manufacturing environment.
• Excellent problem solving skills and attention to detail
• Good written and oral communication skills
• Ability to collaborate and work with diverse teams (skills, gender, culture, race, etc.)
Key Responsibilities
• Work closely with internal project team to understand design requirements
• Independently determines and develops approaches to solutions
• Responsible for installation and debug at R&D facility and factory site
• Provide hands on input and insight into equipment installation and troubleshooting
• Verify equipment build and layout against drawings
• Confer with ngineers and vendors to resolve equipment install or build discrepancies.
Travel Requirements:
• Approx. 25% travel
• Travel to a supplier or vendor may be required for equipment check-out before shipment.
Work Schedule:
Typical 40 hours per week. May require working weekends/holidays or longer days to support schedule
