ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY Geologist/GIS Specialist I-II Office of Water Programs The Office of Water Programs (OWP) is a research and training organization located on the Sacramento State campus. OWP is seeking Geologist/GIS Specialists I-II. OWP () is an internationally recognized provider of training materials in a variety of media, as well as a source of engineering and scientific research that fills the niche between academia and consulting engineering. Our team of nearly 50 professionals, trained in a variety of academic disciplines, collaborates to produce high-caliber work that furthers our mission to provide cost-effective solutions for protecting and enhancing water resources, public health, and the environment through training, scientific research, and public education. OWP is a self-supported academic center within and located at Sacramento State. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS The Geologist/GIS Specialist I requires a bachelor's degree in Geology, Engineering Geology, Earth Sciences, or related discipline. The Geologist/GIS Specialist II requires a master's degree in Geology, Engineering Geology, Earth Sciences, or related discipline. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Geologist/GIS (geographic information system) Specialists provide support and advice services for applied research projects conducted by OWP on water quality and water resources problems. This position includes engineering geology, stormwater, computer programming, water resources, GIS, and database specialties. The series includes positions involved in physical planning and construction, administration and conduct of research, and dissemination of results. The position may include providing water sector utilities with training and technical assistance services for building their technical, managerial, financial, and workforce capacity. Emphasis is on securing, administering, and managing projects in the areas of environmental and water resources research. This position assists the Director of OWP or a designee in preparation of proposals, planning, organizing, supervising, and/or performing work requiring specialized skills in stormwater, engineering geology, databases, GIS, and programming; represents OWP at meetings and conferences involving campus, university, state, and federal entities in matters related to the subject research; and manages projects and assures the quality of the products of the group. This position reports directly to and receives general direction from the Associate Director of Research for OWP or their designee. Note: This position vacancy is with University Enterprises Inc., an auxiliary organization of California State University, Sacramento. This is not a University position; the incumbent will be an employee of University Enterprises. University Enterprises operates commercial enterprises on the California State University, Sacramento campus; it is responsible for grant and contract management and fiscal services for University research and sponsored programs and provides fiscal services to University related agencies and activities.
